Just a quick question for you guys. I just got mine as well and just waiting for my next oil change to install it. I'm assuming the valve sticks up inside the pan just a bit which can leave a small amount of oil (about an ounce) accord to some. I don't mind that minuscule amount, but cant that also leave shavings and metal bits from draining all that out completely and sorta build up over time by collect right at the valve? Not sure if this is happening or not, just curious.

Nothing to worry about. Get that beauty in there and enjoy mess free changes. :D

There is a post from a guy that worked(s) for Fumoto. He posted up some comments about this. Will look for it.

I have over 20 years using these valves without issue.
I normally do not have to use any tools for any oil/filter change.
If the filter gives me a hard time I use a strap tool to free it.
I highly recco fumoto valves for any home mechanic.

Ordered the nipple less. We'll see how this works out, I've spent more on dumber stuff.

Yes. As promised, I moved the EZ valve to the Tacoma and installed the Fumoto on the wife's Lexus. Neither one leaks and neither one has any signs of rust, but the EZ drains a little quicker than the Fumoto. I decided not to purchase either one for the other vehicles I maintain: Camry & Corolla, because they are exposed too much below the oil pan and I'm concerned they are going to snag on something. It's not a concern on the Tacoma because a suspension component provides some protection - not so for the sedans.

One thing to add; both collect dirt/grime at the opening. I'm using blue painters tape to cover up the opening to minimize this collection of crud.

Have one laying around from my last 4cyl Tacoma, most likely the same thread pattern. Maybe I'll throw it on tomorrow.

Thanks for the update and the blue tape suggestion. Experience is the best teacher - taking advantage of others experience even better. Thanks again.

Anyone concerned about potential damage from off-road? Or y'all think she's pretty hidden up behind that cross member.

I was concerned about damaging the drain valve as well when wheeling. Over 2yrs with it on and no problems so far. Did an oil change yesterday and besides road kick up on valve, doesn't look like anything has made contact with it. That cross member seems to shelter the valve pretty decent.

Just pulled the trigger. Amazon was a couple of dollars cheaper then Ebay. Went for the EZ at your suggestion. Thanks for the advise.

Yes. A front cross-member has a thingy welded on that provides most of the protection. But, there is about a one-inch gap that could take out the valve. So, the solution is to avoid driving over things down the middle. Driving backwards, you're okay because a rear cross-member right behind the valve extends about a half inch below the valve. I have a 4X4 DCLB; the cross-member setup could be different for other configurations.

That thingy has a hole in the middle. One could weld or bolt something to it so it hits before the valve.

I was wrong. The thingy protrudes below the valve line. I measured them: valve is 8 1/2 inches from gound; thingy is 7 5/8 inches. In the pic below the valve is visible because of the angle I used to take the pic. The thingy is a foot in front of the valve; so, I think it's still a good ideal to avoid things down the middle in event you hit a dip.
