Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I have the opportunity to buy a j-shift case out of a salvage '95 Tacoma and was wondering how difficult it would be to swap into my 04? I don't care for the push button setup and would like a true manual transfer case for reliability and simplicity. The current t-case is leaking really bad so I'm looking for excuses to get rid of it, and if I get this new one I will take it apart and put all new gaskets in it before installing it for safe measure. I can't imagine it being too hard to do but I was looking for some input by people who've done it. Surely I can't be the only one!

I looked into this for a friend of mines truck.
Physically, it is a direct bolt in.
The electrical I did not have time to root through.
As far as gaskets, I believe there are 2 seals, input shaft, and output shaft, the rest of the body is gasket maker ( silicone ).

I believe you need a tc from the same type of transmission you're removing it from (from what I've read). Different splines or spline lengths??? Not completely sure, or if that's true at all.

The truck has an automatic and I don't think they changed at all from the whole time they were in production. Mine is an auto so it should work I'd think.
