I have yet to do my build on this replacement truck so I am still running stock with a 265/75/16 @ 40 psi @ all 4 points with a type of touring tire- not aggressive at all. My truck is an 06 TRD OR 6 speed with 102k. I've been running premium lately and am extreme about my maintenance. I averaged 22.2 mpg from Boulder, CO to Moab, UT and then 22.2 mpg again on the way back- that was about 360-370 miles per tank. Another tank in around town driving and I still have about a 1/4 tank with 320 miles on the clock. Is this odd or is this what life is like with premium fuel, touring tires, doing the speed limit and stock suspension? Seems crazy.

Probably because your tires are aired up way too much, causing less friction to the road.

That's incredible if that's the case.

Your cap helps with arrow dynamics but 22mpg is about what you should get on the freeway.

It's not that incredible to fathom, I get 22-24 on the freeway, and I have 33's with a bed cover. I get about 16-20 in town depending on how I drive.

I guess I'm just used to a heavy foot and a build w/tons of weight. I almost felt concerned.

No topper on this as of yet, by the way. Tailgate is on too which without I bet mpg would be even better. I may try that just for fun.

Oh my bad. I saw your profile pic and thought you had a shell on.

Btw, tailgate on and up will give you best mileage. Taking off or down will disrupt the air bubble that it forms.

At Boulder to Moab altitude, premium isn't necessary, not enough cylinder pressure to need it, hence 85 octane regular.

Billy 5100s on all 4 corners + bags in the back.
Also running stock tire size (P rated highway all-seasons) and stock ride height and find that I can go 400+ miles on a tank if I'm not fighting a head wind and stick to the speed limit.

With a nasty headwind, I'll sometimes burn 50% more fuel.
