I have a Cobra 75 handheld which isn't the best CB by any means, but it makes for a super sleek mounting option if that is a priority.

Mine is mounting coming out of my center console but I've seen people mount the plug via a switch blank as well which is real sleek.

Same could be done on a 3rd gen.

That is pretty slick!! I have debated on that radio but wasn't sure about the quality.

It's been a nice radio but it's also been my only radio so I can't compare it to much else. It has NOAA weather channels on it which I wanted and was the most low profile install so it's what I went with. It serves my purposes well.

There are 2 hardwireable handhelds that I know of, one made by Midland and this Cobra 75 wx/St and of those 2 based on reviews I went with the Cobra. Ended up with a good SWR based on a meter I bought.

That's the other thing I was looking in to when looking for a CB, was built in SWR. I've read conflicting views where people have said built in SWR meters aren't too accurate typically. So I just bought a standalone unit to recheck every now and then.

I use a Wilson 1000 magnetic antenna and a Cobra 38wxst handheld radio. No permanent installation so I can remove things when I don't need it. Have great range and clarity and no issues with the antenna at highway speeds or in trees.

Any of you guys run your power wire to an accessory fuse under the dash? If so, did you leave the cover off the fuse panel in order to run and add-a-circuit? I don't want to run the wires back out to the engine bay to the battery, so I'm looking for internal power sources, preferably one that only works with accessory power on.

I was wondering the same thing. I intend to try to install mine tomorrow and have been pondering where to get my power from.

I'm running my CB power exactly like that. I don't have a cover on my fuse panel though. Do the '16s?

Mine does too. I just didn't really think of that as a cover though since there;d be no reason to leave it off. Anyways, running a CB off the add a circuit has worked fine for me so far.

I have the Cobra 75 WX ST and love it nice and compact, for the antenna I went with a 3' firestick with no spring as it was giving me some troubles tuning it. The Coax I got the 9' firering so it would mount to the hood brackes and not rub. As for the mounts I got some SOS Concepts hood brackets to mount everything to and added a 15" braided ground cable to the fender bolt.

As you are in Denver you should go talk to the old guy at Radio Service Center off Sheridan he can get you all hooked up and set.

I had considered going somewhere like that to get it tuned. I got the last piece of my puzzle in last night and started to plumb the coax and the rain got me. I wound up going with the Uniden 520... a 9' coax and the 4' firefly antenna sitting on a relentless fab hood mount. I'm still debating on where/how to mount the radio but that can be done anytime. I would like to have the set up functional by this weekend if a ride were to land at me feet that I just couldn't kick away. I hate wheeling without a CB.

The other thing he can do for you is boost the signal like a mofo, it will help tremendously with reaching out for people to hear you and you hear them.

There is another tall relay in the box so the add a circuit should fit fine. Were you thinking it is too tall to close coin tray?
