    Hey Folks,

    I have a 2011 Extended Cab Tacoma.

I used the stock radio for years until it would randomly shut off for a few minutes. Figured it was a radio problem so I...

Bought a pioneer touch screen Apple Carplay Radio and loved it. It worked beautifully for a year, and then randomly starting shutting off and rebooting. One MP3 in particular on my phone (USB connected) would reset it every time.

Took the radio back to CarToys and they charged me $288 to fix the radio. It is still gone to the repair place.

The original stock radio is in my truck now and just today, after being off for a while, randomly came on while I was driving.

This, to me, tells me that maybe there is an electrical problem with my Tacoma rather than a radio problem. Anyone else ran in to this issue? Hoping I can fix it before CarToys keeps my money by fixing a radio that isn't broken.

    Thoughts?

Hard to say, but I would start with a multimeter. Connect it to the 12v on your radio harness and check it when the radio shuts itself off.
