Having owned products manufactured by those on both ends of the list, I can say it is accurate...at least in my case. I'd also add that it correlated to poor reliability (more broke = more $) tho I'm not sure what criteria is used to come up with cost to maintain.

I would like to see the chart include accessories in it, that would be more reflective of the true cost of owning a Tacoma, Jeep, etc...:burnrubber:

Bed rug, ARE bed top, Weathertechs. Little goodies here and there!
So why is caddy so high up where chevy is middle of the road. Same manufacturer, rebranded

Same with Pontiac, maybe people beat on me more cause of sportier look, but still same crap bowtie.

Sorry for the rant, me and bowtie have been round and round. There, I'm done.

Altho I agree with the list in general, i must admit my BMW did cost me less to own than my tacoma has.

Having owned a garage queen BMW and very utilized Tacomas (at the same time) I'd like to hear which models, years, over what time period & the cost you incurred.

I completely believe you tho I sure didn't enjoy your experience. Two power door lock actuators on the BMW were near $800...the failing steering wheel lock $1,200...ECU $3,500. The few items I listed of course exclude routine/scheduled maintenance. Car was purchased new and sold at ~40k & was always kept inside, out of the weather (climate controlled) and not used as my daily driver.

Flip side of the coin, any of my Tacomas never needed anything other than routine maintenance and most accured 40k miles per year.

I wish I had your luck.

Chevy has sub compact and compact cars. Cadillac does not.

As far as Pontiac, it probably has to do with the fact its been discontinued. My GTO, for example, has pretty expensive parts, that are only going up in price as less manufacturers produce them. Luckily all I've ever really needed was a radiator.

I oened the BMW for about a year and a half and the tacoma for twice as long so its kinda an unfair comparison unless you know the timeline. The the bmw was a 2001 330xi manual. I got it with 130k on it and sold it with 165k on it. Nothing ever broke on it, jut regular maintenance, altho i did have a couple lightbulbs go out on me but those were a couple bucks. The tacoma oil changes are just as costly as the bmw because of the synthetic and it needs changes more often. Im on my 4th set of tires on the tacoma have had to replace the catalytic converter, supercharger belt, headligt bulbs, and the mudflaps keep being torn off by itself. A couple other things in there, but yes im sure if i had an m series or owned the bmw longer it would have been a different story.

Also forgot that i spend twice as much in fuel each week ith the tacoma.

Am I reading this right? You spend more on Tacoma oil changes because you use synthetic AND change it more often?

Just checking, because a lot of people go with synthetic for the longer interval. Also, since the Tacoma only requires conventional, that factors into the lower maintenance costs. Its a personal preference to use synthetic.

I see. Well consider these stats are usually not based on modified vehicles. I know the supercharger is Toyota, but the average vehicle doesn't have it. A power adder will always increase maintenance. Was the catalytic converter covered in the warranty? I know it used be to 80k miles (don't remember the years), but we just bought a VW and the guy said the government now mandates smog equipment (including cats) be covered for 160k miles.
