    Hey guys,
    I just got a 99 Tacoma 2.7l 5speed 4x4 138,000miles.
There's oil buildup pretty much all over the front end, bottom of trans, bottom of bell housing, and oil pan. Nothing really above the oil pan. I'm trying to figure out what could have caused it. The passenger side CV boot was loose, but with the amount of build up I'm trying to figure out if it could be the oil pan gasket or the rear main as well. I'm degreasing tomorrow before I start tearing stuff apart. I wiped off the majority but just wondered if anyone had come across something like this before?
    Thanks

This is not uncommon. I see stuff like this at work all the time . degrease it and go run it so the truck is good and hot before you start to randomly change parts.make sure it's really clean it will make trouble shooting a lot easier. Brake clean works really well but it's really bad for you I suggest wearing a respirator and some safety glasses if you go this route.

I'll go pick some brake cleaner after work. And let you know if I find anything.

Nothing seems to be leaking. There's no grease left in the cv boot.. Could that throw grease everywhere?

An oil leak will be very, very slow. Give it time and see what happens. Also, you're sure it isn't just road mud/gunk?

It definitely could be. It doesn't drip anything on the ground. I'm going to fix the Cv boot and get under there with a light and see if I can see anything.
