Hi i just got my second service done and asked them to top up tranny fluid, topped up 400ml and now the shifter is very hard to shift from p-rnd. Almost as if its sticking. Any help/ideas apreciated.

I thought about that as well, I think there was a post a couple months ago where somebody over filtled the transmission and the pressure was too high in the sealed unit to shift if I remember correctly. Does this seem plausible?

There is a nut on the neutral safety switch that tightens the shaft to the switch, if the dealer overtightened it would be hard to shift.

They have the truck now, its in their hands. Just curious who i would want to talk to about extending my warranty because of the tranny issues? The dealer or toyota corp?

Toyota Corp. They gave you a truck with low fluid that you drove around for X miles. It immediately had issues after that. You want an extended warranty for peace of mind that it's not going to crap out at 65k miles now.

Make sure you open a case with corporate to report the issue. Make sure Toyota is acutely aware of these issues.

When they send you that survey in an email, make sure all of your gripes are known and rate them and the truck accordingly.

They are a data driven company. Their "net promoter score" is precious to them. If you wouldn't recommend the truck to anyone let them know.

    You wouldn't need a extended warranty if it were a 2nd gen:boink:

So finally heard back from the dealership, the part is apparently in kentucky and may take 1-2week for arrival. They said i can pick up the truck and if theres any issues to pop the little cap beside the shifter and press the button, this apparently will free the shifter. I just told them to keep it and if i need it i will pick it up. Thats my update for now.

So it's the shift assembly that's bad more than likely. Most newer vehicles you can't just order the release soleniod, it's a whole parts of the assembly. We swap out a bunch of these on Lincolns and a few Fords I've seen in the shop. Nothing related to the transmission

Ok guys update. Picked up the truck which i will say again was low on fluid. And the entire shift unit replaced. I did not know the P R N D S lit up with different colors. Mine never did that till the new assembly. Truck has been shifting a lot better with the fluid and the ecu is relearning which might increase fuel economy the second go around. All in all im happy. Now i just have to figure out who to email and what to say about extended warranty for lack of trust regarding this new tacomas powertrain.

Highly unlikely you'll received a gifted extended warranty because of a faulty part in the shift mechanism. Had nothing to do with the mechanical aspect of the powertrain. Glad you got it all worked out though.

No, mayb not from the shifter as thats what warranty is for. but there are many reports that people with the low tranny fluid did get extra "free" warranty added to there 3yr/5yr. as mentioned in posts further back and the low fluid threads.
