Trying to do what the dealership or factory should have done the right way the first time and he accidentally dropped the cork in. You bet your ass I'd be going in there playing dumb. After dealing with Toyota Coporate's lousy customer service, I'm not feeling like I owe them much in the way of integrity. By the way, if they had any integrity they'd be performing the PDI services and quality checks before they sell their unwitting customer a 35k to 40k dollar truck.

It would have to get though the filter screen first and that's not going to happen.

Never said it would. But if the the transmission fails it's unlikely they are going to be able to identify the bits and say "hey that bugger dropped a cork in there".

No it's not. He has a decision to make. 1) Take it to the dealer and tell them he screwed up and dropped a cork inside. Problem with this, if they don't find the cork in the pan they now have a reason to void the warranty on a transmission related problem. 2) Leave it in and if there is an issue, claim warranty and play stupid. If (unlikely) the transmission fails the dealer would love to change the tranny ($$). We don't rebuild them at the dealership. We don't even open them up to see what happened. Toyota just sends us a new one and we send in the core. 3) He takes the pan down and tries to find the cork. The problem with this is it's unlikely he'll find the cork but if he does a professional job and the dealer can't tell if it's been open then he'll still be good on the warranty. If he does a back yard job and it's obvious the pan has been off, well, up shit creek without a paddle.
