    Morning all:
Don't remember if I mentioned it, but the replacement springs came in and are scheduled to be replaced tomorrow afternoon.
If it weren't so far I would have called the dealer in Southern Maine to have them replaced, I hear they have a good mechanic who just LOVES to do them! :D
Been told he's a little grumpy, but just mention fishing and he mellows right out!

For anyone who remembers my disappearing koi story; it's a raccoon. Saw him amble out of the yard when I got home after dark last night.

Ah ha, finally caught the culprit, at least you know what was doing it now. Might need to get a cage trap and relocate it.

Military aspect only for this reply. I used to think the same way but I have to tell you the current crop of soldiers in some ways are greater. In WW2 you were in it for the duration. In Vietnam we did one tour of duty and you volunteered to go back. In the sandbox you have multiple deployments. Solider comes home and then is redeployed back over there to the crappy sandbox. It takes a severe toll on the soldier and the families. If the soldier gets out businesses do not want to hire them because of the mental problems they perceive happening. Our current soldiers are screwed and they did nothing wrong but fight with valor and honor.

Is it possible to raccoon proof a pond?

I bet 3/4 of the people on this forum have no understanding of who Marlin Perkins was.

    Afternoon all,
About have my 8' X 12' wood shed filled, one more row, four done already, I can split and stack about one row a day, plus clean up the mess left behind from splitting. Just have to split some kindling then and reorganize the remaining stash of rounds and the wood I cut this year. A good task still, maybe two and a half years of firewood in the rounds.

I knows who Marlin Perkins is, used to watch his show all the time, also Gadabout Gaddis! If it had a critter on it, I watched it, guess that's why I liked Lassie!

    Evening Mike:
Going to look at a 2014 Yamaha 40/30 tiller jet outboard on Fri., if it's still there. Would have been a 2hr. drive, but the young guy I fish with is going to an auction that's only about 20 min. from where the motor is, so I'm going with him and we are going to scoot over there and look at the motor.
He's asking $3,500, those suckers list for over 7k, so it sounds like a pretty good deal for only a 2yr. old motor. Normally I wouldn't run a jet, but on shallow boulder strewn rivers like the Delaware River they are almost a must.

Gadabout Gaddis - The Flying Fisherman
    [IMG]

I was eight years old, firmly planted in front of the old family Magnavox tv set when I first saw this carefree elderly gent with the sprite step of a 20 year old hop into the cockpit of a 1960's single engine, piper Cherokee and head for a pristine wilderness area on what seemed to be a whim.

I was a city kid. Born in New York City's Greenwich Village. I was so naive that I had no idea that a tree could sprout unless it was surrounded by a concrete base, yet on Saturday afternoons for thirty minutes, when this fatherly, easy-going character (like someone's favorite uncle) beamed across our tv set and spoke, my mind for the first time soared too, out of the confines of our five story walk-up, as high as his little Cherokee plane could climb and then some.

In my mind, I accompanied this man and visited wilderness areas from that panoramic view of the Cherokee's small cockpit, too beautiful for a city kid to imagine. I was mesmerized by the man. I hung on as the words flowed like smooth syrup oozing from a bottle through the Magnavox's tiny speaker.

Gadabout 'Roscoe Vernon' Gaddis was a hero to me. Not an action hero by Hollywood's standards who rescues Afghanistan single-handedly or comes to the aid of the fair maiden. Gadabout represented a different kind of hero - possessing a spiritual freedom - he brought alive my wandering spirit . His optimism for life and people was contagious. He made a lasting impression which has affected me to this day.

You really need to see it run and perform. It could be he didn't like the characteristics of it. Or like anything else something is not right with it. But I agree with your thinking.

 Wow, ya'll are bringing back some fond memories from way back. Marlin Perkins and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom followed by 60 Minutes on Sunday evenings, accompanied by pizza made from those Chef Boyardee kits that came in a box and ate by the whole family together in the family room ... and by golly I think the TV was a Magnavox console model. :)

LoL ... I just googled and learned they still carry those Chef Boyardee Pizza kits. I honestly had no idea.

    Morning all:
Thanks Ken for bringing back old memories.
On the trip to Jackman Maine there was a sign with something about him along Rt. 201 near the Kennebec river, I think it was where he lived.
To this day that was my favorite fishing show, and he did it without all the modern technology. Maybe it was just what he fished for, or how he did it, but I always enjoyed watching him.
