Running boards as sudo sliders

Would it work or not?

 

nope, don't even try it. they will get destroyed the first time you land one on a rock, tree, dirt mound, etc. they are good for stepping on and that is it.

 

OK just thought I'd ask.

 

Running boards are bolted to the cab, not the frame as sliders are. They're also not as strong. One bump and you will have a ton of damage to your truck.

Do the opposite. Sliders make pretty good steps.

 

Running boards a damage multipliers on the trail. when you land on one they tend to do damage to the body or worse. Brand new 35inch MT-R got trashed when one came off a JK and got wedged between the frame and the tire.

any recommendation on bolt-on sliders that make a good step

 

Any bolt on that you can get the fabricator to build at zero degrees and add fill plates will work well. I kinda wish I had Tyler @Pelfreybilt do mine that way. I love my sliders, but my dog's feet slip down between the cab and slider sometimes. No regrets, but if I was to do it again that's what I'd do.

 

@Pelfreybilt @RelentlessFab , @ETaco23 (Marshall Offroad Fabrication) @EddyRRT (SOS Concepts) and a number of others make bolt on sliders that will protect the rockers and can be welded at a flat angle for a better step. The downside to the flat angle is that it makes the overall truck wider. Outside of that they make a great step, add protection, and allow access to the roof.
