Okay.....I'm starting to get used to the ECT being on after a couple of days. Drives stouter and less sluggish although I'd really like it to drive somewhere in between normally.....with the optional ECT as it is....Gas mileage hasn't suffered as of yet, I'll know more next fill-up.

I asked about this few weeks ago. Most said "just turn it on". Doing so now around town. Defiantly peppier. Haven't run a full tank of fuel in this mode, but appears better mpg in town, and more fun to drive.

I have found that driving in S4 or S5 takes a lot of the "hunting for gears" feeling out of the shifting when driving in stop and go traffic on my way to and from work. Pretty sure the AI in these trucks is thinking a little too hard and just needs to do what the pedal is telling it to instead of trying so hard to guess what the driver wants. Here is an idea for Toyota's AI guys...when somebody presses the gas pedal, the last thing they want is for the truck to shuffle along at the same speed while shifting up and down between the various OD gears the truck has shifted into at 1000rpm.

I get a consistent 23-24 mpg 15 mile backroads driving normaly...if I granny it i could make 25 or close to it.. If you let the transmission coast at low rpm it's pretty damn smooth and just feather the throttle enough so it doesn't shift to another gear to keep speed. I just keep it in S5 to start and shift down to 4 if I'm at a hilly area of my drive.. With ECT I love the extra pep but it sets the lower rpm limit close to 2k and will only shift into 5th when you hit 52mph and it totally cuts out 6gear... If I could keep the throttle response and still be able to use the 5th and 6th overdrive gears I would use ECT all the time.

I usually don't ride with the ECT on all the time even on the highway because it likes to stay a 2k rpm or higher and it locks 6th gear out...about around 1500 rpm is good for cruising on the highway at 60-75mph... I think I recall taking a 1 or 2 mpg with it on all the time. I'll test me regular commute home with ect on to see what happens... I get a kick out of getting 24-25 mpgs and it's become a habit to feather the throttle to speed now... If i want a little thrill I start in 1st in S mode and Shift up at 3krpms or higher.

wish the ETC button was in the steering wheel. wonder if it could be re wired to one of the useless buttons in the steering wheel. maybe some way to change it from default (off) to default (on)?

6th gear works fine in my truck with ECT on. This is with 33's. Mileage is actually 25.6 corrected.

When in S mode can you get your Ect to shift to 6th at 50 mph and below? Mine will only shift into 5th at 52 mph so I assume i'd assume the shift point for 6th is around 60-70..

S is just a gear limiter, its the same shift pattern. Would do no good to try and use S6 vs D

It turns off AI and flex lockup.
Here's an article on the Tundra AB60F.
    http://www.searchautoparts.com/motorage/powertrain-pro/toyota-trouble

Interestingly, the only specific I've heard regarding a new transmission program, is lockup timing.

Someone here does sell a switch that changes it to on, unless you turn it off.
