I didn't even have to post it for sale. Once I put the word out, just at work, the buyer came to me. Quick, and simple. Here in Hawaii these thing sell like hot cakes and hold their value like gold.

It sure will and he got a smoking deal on it.

He needed something reliable, grew up learning to drive it so it was an easy transition.

He even got a free set of wheels and tires.

Your 04 was clean! Looks real nice. Congratulations on the upgrade. I also came from a 1st Gen (2000 ext cab) and am beyond happy with the purchase.

Looks like you maintained your 1st Gen like I did with mine, yours looks nice.

My brother said he saw my 01 driving around town a few weeks ago, it had 170,601 on it when I sold it back in february, it wasn't burning or leaking oil, there`s no telling how long the kid that bought it will be driving it.

Yep, it only has just under 150k miles on it and very clean. Didn't even have any door dings.

Here's how it looked before I sold it to him.

Thanks, he busts his hump in school, gets good grades, works a part time job, makes me very proud of him.

He's pretty damn proud of the truck too, especially when he can say he bought it himself.

My son was in TX at basic when I sold mine, he later said if he had the money he would have bought mine because he knows how well I kept it up, the only thing that ever went out on mine that had to be replaced was the clutch master cylinder and the A/C compressor went out just before I sold it, other parts that I replaced were replaced just because.

The kid that bought mine got it with new brake pads, rotors, front wheel bearings, starter, alternator, fuel filter, hoses, belts, thermostat, battery, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and a set of Michelin's that will give him at least 40k miles. Everything that I ever did to it was documented in the service records by mileage and dated, every oil change etc.

Both of my 1st Gens were great trucks, I kind of hated to see the 01 go but I have been waiting for the 3rd Gen for quite a while, I refused to buy the 2nd Gen, I never did like the body style.

Same here, was never interested in the 2nd gen when they came out but looked at a few when I sold my son the 04 last year. Was back and forth between a couple of 15s then drove a few 16s, still trying to decide. But when I saw the quicksand color and the Offroad now being offered in a longbed, I was hooked.

That was the truck I wanted.

The above is the key, buying what fits your needs and wants.

I see you been driving a Yota since the mid 80s, I bought a Nissan in 86 when the hardbody first came out then traded for a Nissan 4x4 in 88, kept the 4x4 until 98 when I bought my first Taco, been hooked ever since. :D

I loved the looks of the Nissan Hard bodies in the 80's, lived in San Diego and all the lifeguards were using them as rescue trucks.

Was back there two weeks ago, first time in awhile, now the lifeguards use Tacos!

Loved the look of the Nissan but tTlhen I saw Back to the Future and that 85 and became hooked on Toyotas ever since, loved them all despite each having its own little quirks.

They weren't perfect but they were far better than the rest!

The Hard bodies were decent trucks but having owned the hardbodies and 1st Gen Tacos, the Taco definitely wins outright, the folks complaining about todays Hp and mpg should have driven a hardbody V6 4x4 back in the 80s, the 88 Hardbody did what I needed it to do but it really sucked when it came to fuel mileage, especially if I pulled the 4 wheeler on the trailer.

The younger generation really do not realize how far technology has come, if so they would appreciate it a lot more with what they have to choose from in today's automobile market.

That sounds just like my 91 V6 3.0 4X4, would climb a tree but slow as a dog and horrible gas mileage rated at 150 hp.

No AC and a bench seat that didn't recline, just tilted forward, 5 speed manual and no cruise, manual everything.

Drove that little truck for 10 years and loved it. When the head gasket blew it still got me all the way home to my driveway before it gasped its last breath.

Loved that truck and when it died, I went out and bought the used 99.

When I bought the 04, it was still pretty much the same as my 91, just had power windows, AC, cruise and rear seats with four doors. A bit more power but you could still see it was the same truck.

When I first started driving the 3rd gens, I was amazed at how far the trucks had progressed, the tech was ALMOST intimidating as I started to see what the truck was capable of and I'm in the electronics field!

Its funny to read some of these posts about what they think the truck should be in today's world and the things they don't like and complain about. They really have no idea how bare bones the old trucks were that built the reputation that Toyota enjoys today.

My 2004 before I sold it. I actually hand waxed it the night before I delivered it to the new owner.
