I have on other vehicles. IMO, one should use 1/8 inch copper tubing instead of the plastic which is normally provided with a gauge. Your oil line is one place you do not want a sudden leak. I put a coil in the line next to the engine to allow for flexing. The last piece of copper tubing I bought has been used on 3 or 4 vehicles so far.

Sorry, I can't help. Haven't gotten around to putting on one the Tacoma yet. The last one I installed is on a tractor.

Not in the Taco. It's an oil pressure switch, not a sensor. Just turns the light on if there's not enough pressure

I haven't had a problem on any of the 2 dozen or more vehicles I have owned. It just seems like a good idea to know what the engine is doing and be able to react in case something goes wrong.

Another thought--be sure of the correct thread on the fittings. There are a couple of them out there that are almost the same, but aren't.

Also--it is probably a good idea to use a tee with one line going to the gauge and the other to the pressure switch so the normal indicator (and maybe the computer?) work as usual. If installing a temperature gauge, the tee is not a good idea because the sensor should be in the water flow.

    Lots baby!
I made this triple gauge panel out of a single din radio mount.
You will see boost, oil press & volts.

You have a couple of choices for the sender.

    1. You can use a sandwich plate between the oil filter and the engine.

Look at the oil filter and you will see a shiney spacer under the filter.

Look at the back side of the oil filter (towards the firewall) and you will see the senders jutting out of the spacer.

    2. In this picture, there is no spacer. There is a pipe plug under the engine oil filter mount. You might need a mirror on a stick to see it. I can not remember if it is 1" or 1/2" npt. You can use a pipe reducer to adapt to a sender unit. That is what I have done in this pic.

This is just for reference, but I am pointing to the factory oil pressure sending unit. It should be noted that if you try to tap off of this, the threads are NOT npt. There are BSPT (British Standard Pipe Threads). You can get fittings at McMaster Carr.

Mine are Autometer custom I had done in carbon fiber to match the factory gauges. The bad part is mine are real carbon fiber and look better than the factory.

I used the same location as Coupe for my gauges and used a Glowshift spacer. http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/Oil-Filter-Sandwich-Adapters.aspx?sitelink=LeftNav

Thats about the cheapest spacer you can find. It's very very hard to mess up a chunk of aluminum so I felt Glowshift would work fine and it does.

I have Glowshift plates on my Polaris Ranger Diesel and on my Kubota tractor, all to add gauges. The Ranger uses Autometer electric gauges for pressure and temp and the Kubota a big liquid filled mechanical pressure gauge with AN lines.

Like Coupe said, beware of factory fittings, they're frequently British Standard Pipe Thread.

    Hey Dave,
Do you know what part number you use for the glowshift spacer? I have checked their website and they don't have offerings for Toyota... Thanks for your help!

Sorry I didn't see your message until now, I'm usually only online about once a week.

It was just their spacer for the 3/4-16 thread oil filter. https://www.glowshiftdirect.com/oil-filter-sandwich-adapter-3-4-unf-16-thread/

You'll need a 1-1/16" deepwell socket for the fitting. I think it was torqued to 30 or 35 ftlb, I'd have to look through the instructions but they're included. Just make sure the o ring is in the groove and put some thread sealer on the plugs you don't use.

I've got almost 100k miles on it now and the plate hasn't given me any problems. Same with the ones on the Polaris and Kubota.
