Lifetime Drivetrain Warranty

My dealer included a lifetime drivetrain warranty with my new Tacoma. Another dealer included one when I bought my 2013 Sienna. When I was shopping for my 2016 Tacoma, one of the dealers who did not offer they lifetime drivetrain warranty said it was a gimmick. Worthless. I have seen others refer to the lifetime drivetrain warranty here on TW, but was wondering if anyone has ever successfully claimed anything with this warranty? I am a bit skeptical that the warranty will turn out to be like a tire warranty and will actually not pay for anything because I missed a service by a few miles or something like that.

 

My dad has it on his 14 he bought new at Riley Toyota in Jeff City. They said to keep it, that he has to follow all the maintenance and that they have to log the service or another Toyota dealer has to log the service. He has to drive about an hour to do this, but he has done it like clock work, but not had any claims.

 

I got mine from Hopkinsville toyota and before that I looked at some of the reviews and read the fine print, every line of it. Basically you have to do the recommended maintaince and you're power train is covered for as long as you have the truck. If you miss one, it's adios warranty.

 

Not exactly the same but I have an extended powertrain warranty and I just got about $5k worth of work done after only a month of ownership of my 06 TRD access cab 6 speed w/100k miles. No one hassled me even a little bit. They just took the truck and did the work. I paid nothing.

 

From what my dealer said, Southeast Toyota offers them on all vehicles. Like most warranties you have to follow the recommended maintenance, but I will take it over a kick in the shorts any day.
