    I am poor
Never had / wanted one but wouldn't mind throwing one in the Tacoma.

Pros / Cons of different models, anything specific I'd want?

    Thanks for the info!

I haven't bought one yet, but the GoPro session seems to be pretty good ( from reviews ) for the money. I don't need one very often to spend 400$ so the session seems to be pretty good.

I just got the Hero 3 Silver Edition for about $250 new with extra battery and standalone dual battery charger on Amazon. Compare the specs on it and the session. Better deal IMO although the Session shoots slightly higher quality video. The Hero 3 Silver shoots great HD quality 1080 video. Being able to swap batteries out is a big deal. Session has built in battery I believe.

    I'm having the same dilemma.
I might just got with a knock off since they are typically dirt cheap, and may not look as enticing to a potential theif...

I am using the Go Pro Hero 3+. I have the extra battery as well. Picture at 1080p is awesome. I bought a skeleton case and leave the case mounted in the Taco all the time, and just remove camera whenever I use it elsewhere.

I have a 64gb card set to loop. In the settings you just have to tell it to take video upside down. I control everything on the Go Pro through an app on my Note 3 phone.

I have seen other dash cams which were cheaper, but I got this and it is awesome.

I have the hard wire cable kit, but I haven't had time to install yet. Once installed I won't have to charge the battery anymore.

Will post once I have it installed.

I have a SJ4000 from Amazon, happy with it. 100$ and it has everything I need, it sits around gathering dust most of the time, so why blow 500$

I have a 4 silver and I really like it. The screen is really useful and none of the other models have one.

Costco is supposed to have the new hero 4 silver bundle pretty soon. Which will probably be around under $300.
The hero 4 silver is good since it has a rear view screen and the quality and contrast are much better than the session. I had hero 4 black and i really could tell much difference between the silver. Not to mention at 4k recording the storage space fills up very quick and most computer or monitors cant handle 4k yet

I have the Hero 4 Silver and on a hot day going down the road even with the A/C on, the sun coming through the windshield makes the camera hot as h*** if it is mounted in the GoPro mount. I never leave it in the truck on a hot day. I also have the WeatherTech Windshield screen but you can't use it if the GoPro is attached to the mount. I wish WeatherTech had incorporated that into their custom screen for the 16' Tacoma.

I need to send my Hero 3 silver back, supposedly gopro can fix it. It won't power on anymore. Known issue, info on their website. Just picked up a Hero 4 silver..I use them almost daily and got a couple years front the h3 silver model.
Session, pfft. not being able to change batteries blows it for me. If it has a loop setting, I guess it would make a good dash cam.

H4 with 4k,, he'll ya.. rear screen sucks power. Will see if there is a setting to kill it.

The sessions are a pain in the ass to use. I much prefer the Hero 2 I have for ease of use.

I take way more accidental photos and videos with the session than I have with any other Gopro. It really needs a third button instead of just 2 doing 4 jobs.

Some brands ship with a mount that fits in the Gopro clip. I know the Sena and gopros I have are interchangeable on the bases.
