A couple of towing questions...

I'm moving from a Gen 2 Tacoma to the Gen 3 and have a couple of questions for those using the Gen 3 for towing.

First let me say, I used my Gen 2 to pull an enclosed trailer with show car from Mississippi to Arizona, to south Florida and north as far as Chicago. My Gen 2 didn't have the tow package but the engine temperature never got above 193 dF so I didn't worry about it. I would have liked to have known the transmission fluid temperature so that is my first question.

    1. Can the ScanGauge II actually measure engine and transmission fluid temperature in real time? I've been on their website but haven't really found an answer, I've written them an email and haven't received an answer so....here's hoping someone here can help me out.

The second question concerns mirrors. There is an aftermarket bolt-on mirror for the Gen 2 that I used and I loved it but it doesn't look like it will fit the Gen 3. so here's my next question.

    2. What mirror are y'all using for towing? I've seen the extension types but not sure how well they work - are you happy with your choice? Is there a lot of vibration? (More than one question here but same line of thought).

Thanks in advance for your help/thoughts.

if any way possible find a 3rg gen you can tow your trailer with before you buy. pay someone $100. to use their truck to test drive if you have to, money well spent..

Maybe also try posing your question on the towing thread. Folks have it on their watchlist.

A little late to do that...see my avatar...that's my new 3rd Gen in the driveway.

I have no question about whether it will be able to tow it...I'd just like to be able to keep tabs on transmission fluid temps and be able to see when I'm backing up.

Mine's still new...I just brought it home Friday, June 10, but I don't notice any lack of power compared to the 2012 SR5 I had. Maybe I'm babying it right now but since my Gen 2 didn't have a tow package and this one does, I should be fine.
