:bikewhoops:I'm a beginner riding dirtbikes I've only rode twice. I'm 6ft2 and weight 200 pounds. I want to know if a yz 125 is a good bike for me I already bought it but haven't rode it:confused::annoyed:. The bike I rode was a Suzuki 125L 4 stroke and a kx85 2 stroke which is fast .

I think if you think an 85 two stroke is fast, then a 125 two stroke should be just fine. Congrats on the buy and hopefully everything works good on it. Have fun on it, I definitely miss riding.

The 125 will be fine for quite awhile. When you are ready to go up a size, do not buy a used 250F. Those bikes have been ridden hard and put away wet. Think about a 250 2 stroke.

Generalizing that all used four strokes are under maintained is rather ignorant, isn't it? I have a 250f and I'd buy mine again in a heartbeat. Just because they don't require rebuilds every season or two doesn't mean that they go completely neglected.

125 should be fine for now, but your height and weight would be better off with a 250f, 250 or 450f. Im 5'11, 145lbs and I love my 125 but it's a chore sometimes to get around the track, my 250f no issues.

And before you ride, change the oil, check the air filter, chain tension, and tire pressure. If you really want to go crazy set your sag. Then ride it like you stole it - WFO!!!

No not ignorant at all. I call it experience! You just have to be careful. It is just good advice to stay away from a used 250F. A lot of riders are not like you. Like I said, they ride em hard and put em away wet. I have seen so many 250F grenade. They are expensive to rebuild if you do not have the know how.

This is iffy. 250f's of the past were far less reliable, as with any bike even a 2 stroke, it will depend on owner maintenance, reason I buy my bikes new...but yes if you know what to look for you can get a good used bike, usually anything blue or red will be fine, I would be apprehensive about any 250f that was more than 2 years old and also dependent on was it a weekend warrior, racer, etc. All MX bikes are a gamble, they are high compression engines.

Trust me I'll stay away from the 250s for now I think they're huge machines

His problem is suzuki, they are like the hyundai/kia's of the dirt bike world in terms of reliability.

You can tame them down and suit them to your liking (fly wheel weight, gearing/sprocket selection, etc.) your 125 no offense will be struggling a bit based on your weight, that bike was not designed for a 200lb rider, suspension should be a top on your list of first mods. I would do a top end just to be safe as well.

I'm really new to this. I really don't know about top end and the suspension. I'm planning on taking it to a mechanic to get everything checked out and maintenance

Maybe their track bikes. Two of my buddies have drz400's and those things are the epitome of reliability. Whenever my WR250F bites it (maybe never?) that's what I'll be getting. Awesome trail bikes if you're not racing.

Quickly outgrew the 125 four stroke I bought when I was around 12. So I saved up for a 250 two stroke and it blew up within the first week. I knew nothing about two strokes, but my step father said it was all good... Turned out he was wrong. Just haven't had the time or money to start riding again (especially since I started driving the taco). There's also a lot less places to ride in TN rather than California where I used to live.

No experience but yes their MX bikes are far from the most reliable, bottom ends are known for giving out early. I bleed blue though, have had all years of Yami's and all have been good to me.

If your new york new york, there's a few tracks in Jersey where I'm at. It's illegal to ride your specific bike (must be plated so dual sport) anywhere here except private property or a track, please don't be the guy that makes it harder for us to ride here by going to the pine barrens or up and down streets/neighborhoods. The closest track to you is probably englishtown/raceway park which is my home track/points series.

It is a 2 stroke. He probably did not add premix to the gas or it was too lean.
