I've Tacoma rebuild for cross rally car and I'm struggling with engine problem. Left side (3 cylinders) of my V6 engine doesn't work. I've checked spark plugs, camshaft position, coils and fuel injectors. All seems to be fine, what ever i could change between left and right side of engine i did, but it didn't help. I wonder about VVT if i could cause this kind of issue.
Maybe someone has some idea, how to diagnose and resolve this issue ?

What are your symptoms that the left cylinders are not working? I assume you mean cylinders 2, 4 and 6?

What CEL Codes do you have?

Sound of the engine is not normal and when you plug off cable from spark plug on cylinders 2,4,6 there is no difference. I've new dedicated ECU to this engine and there is no error codes coming from sensors.

    What do you mean:

I've new dedicated ECU to this engine.

Are you saying that it has a modified ECU?

Something is wrong with your ecu master. If it worked at one point, then no longer does, that is the source of the problem.

Afaik toyota ecu are very finicky to tune since they are locked from factory, that might be the source of the problem as others have stated

I'm not sure how to do this with the coil configuration but can you confirm that you have spark on the left bank? With an older style you would pull one ignition cable at a time and attach a spare plug and ground it to the case and have someone crank it while you looked for a spark.

Back to basics spark and fuel and connections.

And obviously you have checked for damage specifically to be wiring loom on the left side. Rally racing can throw a lot of shit up into the engine bay and twist your truck in funny ways.

wtflip ... you put a modded ecu and the bank doesn't work, what is there to figure out? I believe you said you (or someone) did the install and the bank no work? or did you beat the living shit out of the truck THEN the bank stopped pumping? We can't diagnose an aftermarket ECU online..

    Hi,
Issue has been resolved, it has occurred that VVTI sensor has been broken, after its replacement engine starts to work ok. Unfortunately due to the fact that we were driven to long only on "half" working engine, when we replace sensor and has started in next rally, engine has exploded and one of the right connecting rod has been broken, so now we are looking for new short block for tacoma 4.0 1grfe engine. Any idea ?:)
