CB specifics

Were you able to put in a PA spkr setup yet and where did you finally end up installing it? Just curious is all?

Were you able to fix your TX'ing issues? Take a picture of your antenna/cable "interface" (i.e. the CB antenna lug/bolt) and post. I hope you were finally able to get it fixed up so that you can use it on the trails finally!!!

Haven't gotten around to it yet. I've got my scanner antenna on the way too so I'm going to install both at the same time so I can deal with running both cables and sealing the grommet all at once. Will update when I do!

 

Yes! I ended up putting my speaker just above the drivers fender in the back of the engine bay.
All set up and good for yelling at friends when picking them up.

Just asking and I don't mean to sound like I'm starting a fight/arguement, why do you need to be "sealing the grommet"? It is a plastic type spacer that comes with the lug/bolt assembly that should have come with the CB bolt/lug assembly? Unless, I'm assuming, it got lost somehow and that is the only thing left that you are able to do? IF that is the case, just make sure that the "bolt threaded part, the 'male' part if you will" does NOT come in contact with the "ground part" of the assembly. Here are some pictures that I did that I hope will help?

















I can hardly wait for your results and hope everything goes well with your final setup!!! Btw, ALWAYS check your SWR of your CB/antenna setup if you are able to!!! You could still be TX'ing, but have a pretty HIGH SWR that will eventually destroy your finals in your CB radio (i.e. the finals is the RF amplifier stage of the radios circuit)!!! Your SWR should be 3 and lower... hopefully lower than the 3!!! A SWR of 2 and lower downto around 1.5 is pretty typical, that I know of. My setup happens to be around 1.5-1.7, so I am very content with that setting!!! If you're sitting at a 2 or just above, you should be fine as well. A 3 and ABOVE, I would recommend taking a look at your cable lash-up assembly!!! Hope this all helps in your endeavors!!!

I'm assuming he means sealing the grommet for the cab that he's going to have to run the coax through. Then he can run both cables into the cab and seal it once.

 

Right-on!!! Very nice!!! Not a problem and I am glad that I was happy to help give some ideas... even though I have a 1st gen, but anyways, some sort of idea is better than any I suppose. Just be careful that no cops are around as they MAY NOT like it, LOL!!!

AHHHHH!!! Retarded me then, LOL!!!

My former boss had his son, who acts like he is some expert HAM (a "nice guy", but can be very demeaning when he talks to you) and he setup a CB antenna system on their show rig! Anyways, for YEARS the "hired truckers" were always complaining about NOT being able to TX while driving the rig across country! Finally, my boss bought a brand new CB radio and wanted me to install it because he knew I had one on my truck! Long story short, I install the new CB radio and get a very HIGH SWR on the built-in meter...??? I press the PTT and BAMMMMM, you could literally HEAR the needle HIT as it went across the meter!!! I trace the cable back to the antenna (NOT a small job by NO MEANS) and was able to trace it back to the antenna, looked at it, then turned away... and THEN looked at it again, literally, I mean LITERALLY a double take, LMAO!!! His son somehow managed to short the antenna by connecting everything just ALL bassackwards, LOL, ROFL, LMAO!!! Again, he was a nice guy, but whenever I had a HAM question and for the co-owner as well, they were always a$$es about it and made you/me feel just F'N DUMB!!!

This TW member, seems as if he is having some pretty bad issues so I just wanted to take the time to show him what I was talking about to hopefully help him out.

I just installed a Cobra 75 wx st this past week with a 4' firestik. I was kinda nervous doing the install due to not being the most electrically gifted, but super straight forward. I went with the cobra 75 due to its size. I ended up making my own tailgate mounting brackets out of the half square bar that you can buy from Home Depot. Figured if it turned out like crap I would order one from BAMF, but pretty pleased. Just used my grinder to cut the top off on of the two sides for about 8 inches and then bent the remaining 2" end back on its self.

Ran the coax into the tail light and followed the wires back to the drivers side door whe. I came up and mounted the small box to the bottom of the drivers seat. Then mounted the CB to the center console about where my knee is.
Then ran the electrical straight to the battery. Took about two hours start to install. Very clean and virtually out of sight which was a big part of my choosing the Cobra 75. I can also post more pictures of how I made the mounting bracket. Love it so far and im excited to really get to test it out on a trip up the Lost Coast next week!

@kyle11863 Kyle, here is a possible solution for your antenna bracket. Zach just did an AWESOME JOB INDEED!!! I already have some of this angle iron that I can give some to you whenever we meet again? I'll definitely remember about it because I'm OCD like that, LOL, LMAO, ROFL!!!

 

Certainly would like to see a bed mount for the 3rd gen that mounts the tailgate.

 

WileE - I think I'm going to get the Cobra 75WX STand fabricate something similar to @ZIB.
Need your recommendations for: Coax Cable, FireStick length, Antenna Spring?, Other items I need to pull together before starting?

I went with a Firestik FS II 4' antenna. Kinda long, I think you could get away with a 3'. Because of this I did get a spring as well as the quick disconnect. Take a look at the links below for all the parts that I bought.
