Dropped my deep walled socket working on my third brake light into the no mans land between the inner and outer lining of the cab. It slid off to the side and I heard it fall down on the way to the store to pick up another socket to remove the brake light to fish it out. I tore apart everything and checked to see if it fell down by the rocker panels, no luck. I think I hear it rattling around, but my magnet pickup tool from AutoZone is garbage, and I need something stronger to "check" it's location (see if it moves) and then guide it out.

    Any suggestions?

Only thing I can think of is a better magnet .

Can you even get close to the socket??

Will the socket rattling around drive you crazy ??

Tools get lost they break fact of life

One of them cameras on a flex line would help spot it.

I ordered a stronger magnet online. Who knows when it will get here.

I think I hear it rattling around, but it could be some of the other interior shit rattling, at this point who knows.

I will try another magnet and if that doesn't work, guess it'll have to live its life in there. I don't have any idea where exactly it is. I'm purely dumbfounded that it didn't fall down by the rocker panels, when that's the only possible path it could have taken after it slid over.

    .
Warm up a piece of "Gorilla Brand Duct Tape" where it is super sticky and almost gooey ... and make it into a small ball or rod shape.

Attach it to a solid wire, rod or stick (with wire ties or etc.) and it will pickup almost anything ... when you touch it & push against it to make it stick to dropped object.

Works best in hot weather too.

    OME and worth every penny.
I bought one of those magnet online that has to be kept in the house on wood away from any electronic devices. If I ever get attacked by a cyborg.....he'll be knocked out cold. ( It's just fantasy that they'll be as tough as the Terminator)

I used the little mirror and the magnetic pick up tool to find and grab it. Both were from harbor freight.

I'll post a pic of where it was, there is no way I would have found it without the mirror

Haha! I ordered one of those on ebay and it's not even here yet. It's a 1 inch sphere and it has 70 lbs of pull force! Not sure what I'm gonna do with it when it arrives

You'll have it for next time, because there's no way this will be the last time sadly.
