The chicken tax doesn't apply to NAFTA countries, so the automakers can still build them in Mexico to save money. All the tax does now is limit consumer choice - niche models which would not sell in enough numbers in the US to justify a plant, don't get imported into the US. (VW Amarok, Mitsubishi Triton, BT-50...)

Are you kidding me? That would cut into texting and fon call time. Also takes away from personal grooming, masturbation, sleeping, staring at intestines & whatever other crap people are doing instead of driving.

How the hell do they not have shit ton of cars getting cats replaced from carbon fouling? I've killed one cat on my Mazda from the pig rich tune they have and it isn't anywhere near the amount of carbon fouling that'd be happening burning as much oil as these Subies are being reported to be burning.

Could be because the require 0w20 oil, its pretty thin and some believe is the reason for some of the burn.

carbon build up is carbon build up though. Doesn't matter to the cat what weight oil just got burned. My wife's RAV4 runs on 0-20w and it goes from oil change to oil change without losing or burning any.

Even if the chicken tax didn't exist, I don't think we would've seen the Ford Global Ranger and Toyota Hilux in the US. Ford would rather unload more F150s at higher profit margins, while Toyota specifically designed the Tacoma for the American market. As for the Fiat Toro, why the hell would you want to be seen in it? As if the Cherokee isn't ugly enough :D

That's because Toyota learned its lesson from the previous-gen RAV4 with the 2.4L 2AZ engine, which was notorious for burning oil...

I just want to see more actually small pickups on the market. The tacoma is the size of the gen 1 tundra now. The toro may be rebranded as a small ram. Its been sighted in the usa all covered up like they like to do. Its small, awd, available in stick and diesel. I mean the only true small pick up available is going to be the honda ridgeline which is ugly with no stick shift. I think if fca rebrands the toro as a ram and changes the front end a bit it will do well.

^The Ridgeline isn't small. In fact it's sized closer to a full-size than a Taco. The previous gen was like that, too, which partially contributed to poor sales, since the truck's payload and towing capacity is poor when cross-shopped against a full-size.

^Yep. They avoided a mid-size truck after 2011 as a business decision (F150s carry higher margins). They now decided to bring back the Ranger in 2017/2018 as another business decision (Colorados and Tacomas seen to sell with high margins). The chicken tax had little bearing on either decision.

Im pretty sure 25% tax vs 2.5% had a good amount of bearing on a business decision unless they decide to build it hear.

    ...^^^... This ... :)

I don't think the "stick Taco" (for USA sales) is a "J-Car" ...

Actually it doesn't. If Ford felt selling a midsize truck in the US made sense, they would build it in Mexico or in the US. If the chicken tax disappeared, Ford would not import Rangers from Thailand.
