I just had my new 35" mounted and balanced with Dynabeads. I decided to balance the wheel/tires with beads based off this thread and experience from people that work with tires off 18-wheelers.

I've only driven ~200miles with the new 35s but no steering wheel shake/wobble/vibrations from the DynaBeads!

I used 8oz per tire on my 315/70/17s. Just my contribution....

I looked at doing this for a while, but never did. I could never find enough positive results to make a good decision. Now that Im finding this, Im wondering if it would be worth it on my new tires.

Last month I had a set of 285/75/16's installed and we needed to add spacers to clear the upper control arms (those will be gone soon). Since the spacers do not fit correctly, I have an issue with the front left tire. Would it be worth my time to pull the weights off, pop the bead and add 8oz of Dynabeads?

 

Wheel weights are only accurate until the tire starts to wear down. The beads will constantly rebalance to compensate for wear

 

Talked to Dynabeads and they are telling me to leave the weights on and add 4oz to each tire for maintenance.

 

I had good luck with only the beads but if the maufacturer is stating run the beads with the wheel weights than try that first.

Edit: Went ahead and ordered 4 HD 8oz bags.

 

I ran them inside a set of 35x12.5 bfg mud terrains. The tires were balanced with weights before I installed the beads. I removed the weights after installing the beads. Tires ran smoother and wore a lot more evenly. I'm planning on running the beads inside a set of 255 pizza cutters on my Tacoma when funds allow. Hope they work out for you.

 

My beads came in yesterday. Ill be dropping them in tomorrow some time after I do a suspension lift on the GF's Wrangler. Weird when her tires are bigger than mine and Im running 285's.

 

Crom - anything special about the bags that these come in? I was thinking about getting a couple of DBS-OR16's instead of four DBS-OR8's for my planned Cooper ST Maxx 255/85/R16 and split the contents in half for each tire, which saves me a few bucks.
Also, I believe you skipped the wheel/tire balancing when your tires were mounted. I think I'll do the same. Over 70 bucks in cost savings.

 

Beads were in 8oz plastic bags, open and pour. As long as u can measure, you should be good I suppose.

 

Planning on going this route but with .20g airsoft beads instead of dynabeads. Going to use 8oz for my 285/75/16's per the dynabead website. The bottom of the hi-lift will not damage the tire as long as I keep it on the opposite side of the TPMS sensor, correct?

 

You're asking about breaking the tire bead? It should not matter. The TPMS sensor is pretty tight agasint the wheel, but to be safe, yes, you could break the bead away from the sensor and pour in some beads.

How did this go? I was planning on doing this to break the bead when I have to mount some new tires up. Only seen it in pictures but never talked to anybody that has done it.

 

Hi-Lift works great. For debeading a tire, you'll have to break the bead in several places on one side, flip the whole wheel/tire over and repeat on the other side, then you can use tire irons to remove tire. I did it with my old duratracs no problem.

 

Is using the .20g Airsoft BB's for tire balancing pretty common? Aside from the vast difference in cost per ounce, what are the pro's and con's of using these vs. the Dynabeads? I just bought 5 new ST Max 255/85R16 and the costs of shipping, mounting, balancing are starting to creep up dramatically. Hoping to save a few bucks here and there. If there's no real difference between Dynabeads and Airsoft BB's, I'll go the cheaper route.

I've been posting a few reviews on some recent mods so I figured I'd share my experience here as well. I was extremely dissatisfied with my inability to keep wheel weights on my last set of tires. I have no idea why, but I slung them off over and over again. Anyway, after running unbalanced tires -> cupped tires -> me listening to waaahwaaahwaaah all the time, you guys brought me to dynabeads. I pulled the trigger and put them in my 255/85/16E KM2's. The chart on Dynabeads site lists 6oz/tire for a 255/85/16 load C tire. I was worried about the load range discrepancy so I called the company and they advised me to run 8oz of the off-road beads in each Load E KM2.

Long story short... Smooth as glass from 0-80mph. I am so pleased. I even like listening to them settle when I come to a stop. Ha Ha.

Just curious, how loud is the shwoosh when stopping?
