This thread may only apply to the performance guys, as many people will never know or care. Being in the high performance aspect of automotive for some time with my newer school LS2 GTO I installed a 3500 stall converter built by Yank some time ago. This thing was awesome and offered some serious tire roasting fun if you punched it. Best of all, this thing acted in such a way unlike OE torque converters to where if you punched it. The converter would automatically let the RPM jump up to 3500 RPM and haul from there. Better of the fact was that once it stood up there and you stayed on the gas it would allow the converter to keep the RPM at 3500 no matter what gear you were in. Effectively never allowing your engine to fall outside of it's powerband range unlike OE. The power gains to be had simply by allowing better powerband engagement on stall converter equipped vehicles at a drag strip offers 3/10- 5/10's 1/8 and 1/4 trap time increases. Not bad for just a torque converter swap out!

Now this mod would be better geared towards the supercharged crew, as the powerband starts at about 3200-3300 RPM. As for the NA guys, there would be some benefit, as you guys make your power up higher in the RPM range as well, but serious power is not something you guys are really searching for I'd imagine.

I have been on this forum for years and seen many discussions brought on here, but I have never seen this sort of mod performed or talked of on these trucks before.

The only issue I know that exists is excessive heat build up due to the slippage which the converter allows in order to flash up to the higher RPM range, those effects are easily negated by the guys with the TRD OR and Sport models since we have transmission coolers.

Anyone care to chime in on their thoughts? Personally, I dislike the close to violent engagement after the blowers powerband kicks in, not to mention the notable "lag" prior to powerband engagement. This would be a great solution for something like this. Get a soft enough converter with the correct STR and you would never tell the difference over stock until you punch it HARD. They even offer them to have lockup engagement just like OE for highway cruising. One small issue I could forsee though is the boost "blowing" through the converter which would damage, but I'm sure there are companies out there that have special converters designed for boosted applications. NA guys would be undoubtedly in the clear.

Pic for thread promotability purposes, lol:
