Hm... these look cool, what what the downside? Everyone says spacers are bad? Or does that only apply to obnoxious 3" spacers?

 

Ahhh...good man, your doing your home work!! Yes , those 3" spacer lifts are bad. This is a thicker spring seat than is in there now. It reduces the preload of the shock just a little. It absolutely doesn't harm anything and it isn't like the spacer lifts which mount on top of the coilovers.

 

Ok, so sounds like I will need these 1" Toytech spacers and 1.5" Progressive AAL in the back to replace the overload leaf, because the truck already has a rake with the front sitting higher than the back. Adding another 1" in the front will make it look ridiculous without lifting the back.

 

You guys may know this already, but I found out something interesting last night about my truck. I always wondered why I never experienced the Taco lean that seems to plague these trucks. As it turns out, the 6112s on the Pro have two spring cup mounting locations, kind of like the 5100s have four. It comes from the factory with the driver's side in the higher position to prevent the lean. Evidently it's this way on the 4Runner and Tundra Pros as well.

 

What's everyone doing for towing? Air bags, AAL, or packs? Or is the stock pack fine for towing? I'll be towing a STi for the remainder of the race season.

 

Not necessarily.....my front is the stock Baja set up. I put the icon progressive aal on the rear and took off the overload. Had I left the overload in, it would have been way to high in the rear.

In the future i do plan to add the toytec spacer. At that time I will then replace the overload.

I suggest that you at least for now do what I did ....just add the icon progressive aal and take out the overload.

 

I have the Wheeler's 3 Leaf in the back, which is the same thing as the Icon, but cheaper. I left out the overload because I wanted it flexy, but put in a 1" block because I added the Toytec top plate spacer in the front at the same time. I have about 1/2-3/4" of rake, and I'm happy with the way it sits. Eventually I'm doing a shackle flip, at which time I'll take the block out.

 

I like everything except the block.....I'm just not a fan of them.

 

I'm really not either, but a 1" block is the biggest I'd ever go. It's a solid billet block the full size of the spring perch not a small hollow cast one, which does also make a difference. It's a temporary fix until I get the shackle flip done, which should leave me around the same height I am now when I take the block out.

 

I think air bags and cradles give you the most flexibility.

 

I run Ride Rite Air bags on both my 1st gen Tundra and my Taco Pro with Cradles on both sets of bags.

 

Hate to jump in and interrupt mid conversation but I just recently went with the exact setup Juanitobunito is talking about...toytec 1" up front and the icon AAL in back and I love it. I left the overload in (future plans to get a cap and rtt) and it's probably giving me a bit more rake so here's a couple pics just for the sake of comparison...

I ran these 285/75/16 ko2's for a couple weeks before buying the AAL and spacer and the stock Baja suspension handled em like a champ! (didnt leave the pavement though...)

 

Love your build Dave. That truck looks wicked. How do you like your bed rack? Debating between an actual truck cap or a rack like yours. Need something that's rated to hold a roof top tent and two people inside.

 

I actually got this done on Monday. 1" Toytec spacer, ICON 1.5" Progressive AAL 3-pack and BFG KO2 285/75r16.

The truck looks awesome. So far the only rubbing I got is when I make 90 degree turn into a driveway that has a dip. The tire slightly touched the front mud flap where the cab mount is. If I take off the front mud flaps, I'm pretty sure it wont rub anywhere else.

Yeah forgot to mention that...I took all the mud flaps off and haven't had any issue with rubbing yet.

For sure! The ride feels soooo much softer because the overload leaf spring was removed when they installed the AAL.
