My wife and I cruised through the first 2 seasons in like a weekend for each season. This third season we have only caught the first 2 episodes so far. Love the show, looks like we are going to do better about spacing this season out...at least for now.

    Hey guys,

a fellow TW member, t4r4life, had his car stolen a few days ago and all his weightlifting equipment was in it (about $800 worth). He has a competition he's been training for on Aug 1 and we're trying to raise him enough money to buy new equipment. We're already up to $100. Anything helps. Thanks!

    Here's the gofundme:

I've seen a few episodes of this show. To put it succinctly... I hate this show. It truly sucks. To me it's a show depicting a bunch of criminals and trying to make them seem like semi-decent people. Personally, I'd rather these low lives be shown like scumbags they really are; a bunch of low life losers. Or better still, just don't produce a show about them. It's not worth the film it time it took to make it.

So, you are angry that a fictional comedy portrays bad guys as protagonists?

Not angry but I am truly annoyed by the fact that something so stupid will gather the attention of the morons of our society. And further yet, these morons of society will go ahead and try to become like the criminals portrayed because they think it's cool. The age old phrase remains true... Stupid people do stupid things!

This whole thing reminds me of the movie Idiocracy. While this movie is a fictional comedy, there's a ton of truth to it. Society as a whole is becoming dumbed down from stupid people breeding. And the proof to this is people actually liking and watching movies/shows like the one you posted about.

    Have a great day!

Dude, it's a comedy about a women's prison. They don't have some secret agenda to turn people into criminals. The biggest demographic for the show is college kids...not exactly criminals. Actually, I'm in law school...going to school to learn to put away criminals. My fiancee is in nursing school...I'm sure, after 3 seasons of this show, she's probably stealing syringes to shoot up heroin in the hospital bathrooms now. The show is also one of the highest rated tv shows for the past 3 years, not that saying genius lies in numbers, but it even shows that professional critics agree that the show is entertaining.

I would agree with your argument when applied to tv shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Honey Boo-Boo, etc., but not a purposeful satrical comedy tongue-in-cheeckly dramatizing one's life in prison....that's the joke of the show: they're taking these bad people and showing that they're still human and that they have issues, as well.

Stupid people do stupid things....very true. But watching a tv show doesn't deem one stupid. Categorizing an entire demographic is stupid. I watched the ISIS beheading of journalist James Foley. You can, by your logic deduce two things:

    1. I am stupid for watching something stupid
    2. I want to join ISIS because I'm so stupid that I am so easily influenced by everything I watch

Let me ask the other members of this thread this:

how many have you wanted to go on a crime spree after watching this show? By this fellow's logic, we should all be wanted by the authorities for watching this garbage and being so easily manipulated because we're so dumb and going out and murdering folks and robbing stores.

And to your last point of the movie Idiocracy: yes, it has plenty of truth in it because it, too, is a satire...it's a tongue-in-cheek dramatization on society, just like OITNB. That doesn't mean that everyone entertained by something is an idiot. I watched the show Jackass growing up. Guess how many times I've let my friends shoot me with a piantball gun? Guess how many times I've drop-kicked a friend? Guess how many times I've stapled something to my skin? Zero.

At the end of the day, you have to remember, it's television. It's entertainment. It's there to entertain. It's not the news. It's not there to persuade or deceive. It's there for sheer entertainment value. Jumping to the conclusion that an entire group of people are stupid for watching a show shows your stupidity.

My oldest daughter loved the show until she ran into "Boo" in a club in Brooklyn last year. My daughter turned around, saw who it was and said, "Hey Boo, I love you on the show!". The actress snapped back, "A true fan would know my real name!" and then she bucked at my daughter like she wanted to fight. My daughter said the "lady" was wearing a black t-shirt with the word "CUNT" on the front of it. Real classy!
