Hey guys I'm new here and i bought a 2015 tacoma sr5 a year ago. I finally have some cash to throw at it and want to lift it as well as put some black rims on it. Its more for style rather than off roading. I always hear its a terrible idea amd not worth the risk. I don't want to raise it a lot but i do want it a bit taller. What's a good height? How much would a lift kit run

Nope... rode my 2007 on a 3" lift for years. Just lifted my 2016 another 3" yesterday feels much better than stock.

Just remember you get what you pay for.

Also, lifting it "high enough to where fat bitches can't get into it" doesn't work. Home Depot sells ladders. In regular English, don't get a drop bracket lift.

A regular 3"/1" won't harm the vehicle if you invest in decent quality parts, especially if it's only 2WD

Increasing the center of gravity increases your chances of rollover. That said, that will really only happen if you drive like a crazy race car driver or you're forced to make and evasive maneuver, in which case your probably screwed anyway. I actually find my icon lift made the ride much more stiff and allows me to corner faster than stock.

Or in one sentence- Go for it! Then post pics.

....about as dangerous as it is to drive on the roads. About as dangerous as flying in an airplane. As dangerous as drinking too much, tripping on the sidewalk, and getting a black eye from your girlfriend for staring at ....LOL

The world has gone too damn soft. Get the lift...and ENJOY it EVERYDAY that you drive it!!

Generally trucks have a higher center of gravity and that can be problematic for rollover. The higher you raise the truck, the higher the center of gravity. One of the reasons while I'm interested in a lift but not over 3".

Go to Wheelers off road and start a cart in Old Man Emu products. I'm a Fox guy myself but they're pricey, and hear nothing but good things about OME

I have 1.5" aal in back and 1.75" quick lift rancho 9000XL ride adjustable struts up front.
I love it, Its just the right height in my opinion.

Only lifting the front 1.75" doesn't require you to lower your front differential or do any other major modifications. Anything higher than 2" requires diff drop and extra mods.
It looks way more aggressive and allows for larger tires.
    Rancho 9000XL were 375$ a pair.
If i had it to do again i wouldve spent the extra money on Bilstein quick lifts, but for my needs they work just fine.

The aal was only $150 and allows for more weight to be carried in the bed and increases your towing abilities!

Whatever you do DO NOT buy strut or spring spacers!!! they put a ton of stress on your front end components and make you truck handle like shit at higher speeds.

I would lift it 3" to 4" then put big wide tires like a 32 or 33x12.50 on it, that truck has potential

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
The new Bilstein 6112 front struts are super nice, and beefier than any other strut sold for this truck. They pair them with high quality coil springs and can be adjusted for your desired height. Bilstein also makes a strut to pair with your factory springs and are adjustable for your desired height as well, but you lose a little ride quality. Old man Emu also makes high quality struts and springs, and paired correctly, you will have good ride quality. Then there are Fox, Icon, Kings, and many more, but they are much more expensive than the aforementioned. If you want to retain a soft ride in the rear, go with a single add a leaf, or a progressive add a leaf pack like Icon's rather than entirely new leaf springs. If you want more load carrying capability, you'll sacrifice ride quality. Old Man Emu leaf springs, All Pro leaf springs, and Deaver leaf springs are popular, there are more options for add a leafs and full leaf packs, but you can search and find them easily. Rear shocks are all very close to the same as far as ride quality. I like the Fox 2.0 smooth body's, they're budget friendly and high quality, then Bilstein makes a budget friendly reservoir shock as well. Oh, and almost forgot, you may find that you'll need new upper control arms to help get your alignment within spec, you really only need this if you go above a two inch lift, and definitely need if you go above a 3 inch lift. SPC makes LR UCA's that are budget friendly and have come a long way on their quality as well. Then camburg, total chaos, icon, and a few more make these control arms as well, but more expensive. And your wheels are all about your style, but you will need to know what backspacing and offset you will need for the size tire you will run. 4.5" to 4" backspace is good for most applications, off set though is directly proportional to rim width, and you will need to know that information. Good luck with your lift search and if you need anything, just ring, we'll all chime in.
