Anybody else experiencing high idle issue in Taco 2016 SR? Mine has 3,500 miles on it. It lunges when in reverse and drive when foot is on brake. Took to dealer and was told it did not show any issues when they drove it and when hooked up to computer. Mechanic did say they have received several complaints about the same issue, and that the truck may still be adjusting to my driving habits. It should already be adjusted to how I drive. Something is definitely wrong. I use 93 octane gas, so low grade fuel isn't the issue. Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks for the great input. Lurching from park to drive is a good way to describe it. I do let the motor warm up before putting into gear. It's good to know Toyota is working on a software fix. I thought it might be computer related. I contacted their corporate office and have a case complaint on file. If everyone having the same issue files a complaint, then maybe they will get on the ball to fix it sooner. Aside from the idling issue, am loving my truck! Thanks again to all responses.

My truck does this too only when the truck is cold. Once the engine has warmed up completely the issue becomes non-existent.

Isn't high idle when cold to heat up the cats (EPA crap)?

Did they already check the transmission fluid level. Mine did it before the fluid was topped off

I also had my oil changed while I was in for the idling issue. I'll double check to make sure they topped off the tran fluid. I noticed since we're having temps in the 80's this week, it doesn't surge as drastically. Still does it though. Will check out the fluids. Thanks!!!!

The transmission fluid isn't an easy thing to check. Dealers won't check it unless they have to as it will tie up a tech for a few hours doing the procedure correctly. I dropped mine off at the dealer 3 weeks ago on a Saturday and they needed it all day to check the fluid level. Are you in California too?

Don't waste your money. Just run the recommended grade.

Hey, you asked for input. ;)

Wanted to give an update on my idle issue. I had called Toyota's Corp. office and they called the dealership. I go this week to have the service manager ride in the truck with me. Also he is going to check the transmission fluid. There were 2016 Tacos having the same issues I am. Those recalled trucks were delivered from the factory with low transmission fluid. My truck's VIN was not part of that recall, but it's worth having checked. Something is definitely not right. Truck idles high when going from park to drive or reverse, continuously searches for gears when going down the road, and feels like I am a boat behind me. I'll keep everybody posted on what I find out. Next time I buy a vehicle, I'll make sure to buy the prior year's model, to give them time to work out the bugs! If anybody else has had the same issue, I'd appreciate the input.:jerkoff:

Just out of curiosity, does it do this every time or sporadically?

Mine has 3,500 miles on it. The mechanic tried to tell me it might still be adjusting to my driving habits. I don't buy it.

I had the idle problem and had it checked at 1100 miles.

    Tow package? Made in Mexico?

I had the chance to get my transmission fluid checked and filled and my idle went down well below 1000 RPM and the reverse to drive lurch is reduced too.

If you can try a different dealer too
