I already found where to get front winch bumpers for my 02. So now I'm looking for a rear winch bumper. I was hoping to find an internal winch bumper rather than external. But if you know of any kind of rear winch bumper for 1st gens, please send me pics, links, or any contact info.

Never heard of a rear-winch bumper.

You should get a front receiver and rear receiver either in bumper form or hitch form.

Then - get something like this:
[IMG] to mount the winch onto.

    Or this:

    Or this:

Allowing you to own ONE winch (not two).

I've seen some on F350's and similar full sized trucks. So I wasn't sure if someone made them for Tacomas too.

If you don't want the receiver winch setup and you absolutely find it necessary to have winches front and rear then talk to Jeff at Badland bumpers. He can do whatever you want.

Can be a SUPER handy trick to have up your sleeve. Pull out folks from behind you or back yourself out from a stuck spot. The more aggressive the wheeling...The more options you benefit from.

I don't think I'd permanent mount one back there...Owning one winch is spendy enuf...but that's a personal choice. That receiver winch tray is a GREAT option. They even make front end draw bars for stock bumpers...It's all about options!!

This is true, you may find out after getting stuck that going out back the way you came won't break anything. Whereas going deeper into it may just make it worse.

And snorkling into mud to find your bumper mounted winch isn't really fun- And I've seen folks who had to. Drive into a mud hole with out knowing what is in there....OOPS>

Yeah...I traversed said mud hole about two rigs behind that guy...and about 45 mins later by the time he dragged his shit out....There was plenty of room to the right side- if you take to slow you can find it.

To his credit- I've never seen such an awesome wave from a Jeep before....or since!!

When I got my first Taco I went out by the river and a seemingly shallow hole swallowed my front end. Both rear tire were off the ground and the water was a 1/4" from the intake. I check the holes I go into now.

That's why I want my rear winch bumper. Becuase I can pull myself out the way I came instead of going deeper in where things can get really complicated. I think it looks cleaner too. I don't go mudding too often but that winch in the rear would be super handy if the rear end was slightly under water. Then all you have to do is free spool the cable off instead of taking that big heavy ass winch and mounting plate, finding the hitch, sliding it in the hitch, and trying not to loose anything, while you're in muddy water that you cant see through and risk droping a crucial pin or something.

I wish it was easier. A winch on the back is going to be an ass pain if you don't use it all the time. I would keep a Come-along for the rear and the winch up front. Cheaper and still effective.

How would a winch in the rear become a pain in the ass? If it's all internal, it wont even stick out? Everything will be in between the bumper and the spare tire.

you guys all realise you can pull yourself out backwards with a front mount winch.

It just takes a winch block, and a rear recovery point.

Just run the cable under the truck to the block on a tree behind the truck and back to the rear recovery point.

Easy, one winch does it all. And yes the cable will rub on your skid plates, but that what they are for.

Provided you aren't stuck in mud or fast moving water....There are arguments for all sorts of configurations- Each has benefits.

Last time I heard of a guy running his cable under his truck, It jacked up the outside of his axel housing and put a lot of strain on the winch and burnt it out. I'd rather get a rear winch setup than risk that.

If it was the ONLY way out then ok, But I just don't like the idea if having that ran under the truck without guides keeping it from jacking stuff up.
