    Truck is 2001 V6 taco x-cab.

So I recently installed a supercharger along with URD's higher flowing fuel pump. I have noticed that the gas gauge does not drop to empty when I turn off the engine and remove key.

Am I missing something here, are the first gen tacoma gas gauges supposed to drop down to "E" when shut off and return to whatever the level is in the tank when turned on and started?

I guess I never really realized it until now.....because I thought it drops down when shut off???

Upon driving around with the charger, the gas is slowly dropping but not much. I would think that with the addition of the charger and me rompin' it around that fuel consumption would be worst, but it really isn't. I just don't know if I've done something wrong with the install of the new fuel pump and the gauge remaining at the level when shut off.

    Please let me know, thanks.

The float is probably catching on something. Did you disassemble the fuel pump cradle, replace the fuel pump, and re-use all the other 15-year-old components on the cradle?

So is the gauge supposed to drop down to the "E" then, when turning off?

The cradle? Sorry I dont know what this means but I did remove the old pump, put in the new with all new components from the kit. The kit doesn't have anything with removing or modding the float.

    thanks

I put the URD upgrades on my '98. Didn't affect gauge function at all (except make it move from F to E quicker...haha). The gas needle has always stayed in the same place when I turn it off. Never drops to "E". Maybe something changed in the years between ours, but are you 100% sure it did that before? What you might do is see where the needle sits now, and go fill up and see if the number of gallons you put in seems about right. Then drive, and when you get close to your usual 'tankful' mileage driven (maybe take off 10-15% for the S/C install) you can see how accurate it's reading.

Yeah, thats the thing.....i dont remember if before the mod that the needle actually does drop to the "E" when shutting off.

I guess I dont' drive the truck all that much anymore to remember; and on my daily-driver Acura TSX, the needle does actually drop......so maybe i guess I'm confusing myself.

So after work, i did take it out for a drive and the needle indeed does drop. I just wanted to be sure that i did not screw up on the install of the new pump.

We shall see, i will continue to drive it until its empty and see if the needle and light comes on.

Any others want to chime in if their gas needle drops or stays put when the truck is shut down?

    thank you.

Same here. Fuel gauge doesn't drop to E after I shut my truck off. It stays where it was when the truck was running.

Mine does not drop to "E." For the most part it stays at the current fuel level (if my truck isn't run for a day, two or week, then the level drops a bit but not to "E")
