Trading a canyon for a tacoma

i bought a 16 canyon thinking of trading for 17 tacoma. few things i dont like about the canyon. is it a good idea? tell me your thoughts thanks

Best decision you could make! It's a great truck. So capable, so refined, so reliable and you will never lose your shirt on one.

Man, I love the truck, but there's no denying that the tranny is pretty bad in mountainous terrain, even when not in cruise. I think it could be EASILY improved if Toyota would fix the programming, but as to whether or not they'll be able to do that, who knows!

I'm now getting great fuel efficiency, but the tranny is frustrating as hell in the mountains. I live in Colorado, so i'll often drive up long, steady grades when heading into the mountains. I notice that, even when heading up a steep grade (5-10%) in 4th gear at 3500RPM, the tranny will upshift if I ever-so-slightly let up on the accelerator. As soon as I put a little more pressure on the accelerator, it'll downshift again. It can do this a few times heading up a grade. I find if I'm not accelerating up a grade, it'll upshift, and then it'll immediately realize it doesn't have the power, and it'll downshift again. This can become very frustrating in slight traffic in the mountains. You'll be fine if you keep accelerating up the grade in 4th, but if you come up on a car that's not moving very fast and you slightly let up on the accelerator, it'll upshift. When you hit the accelerator again, it downshifts again. Rinse and repeat ad nauseum. It's pretty annoying, but I can look past it considering how awesome the truck is in every other aspect. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about the tranny's durability after 100,000 miles of this!

You have very little to worry about, these trans go thru torture test something you would never do to your truck.They're deliberately and literally destroyed to see what their breaking point is. It will last!
Just don't overfill it till it damages the seals and leaks and you'll be fine. Use ETC or S mode on mountains or heavy traffic and you'll discover a New truck under the hood!

Yeah with S mode in the mountains all is well. I can prevent all up shifting while climbing.
