Thats the ss and campaign people for you. He came into the fbo i was working at a few years ago in his 727 and it was very low key, and low maintenace compared to most.
We were the home base for obamas 2008 campaign, and what a pain in the ass that was, i almost tossed his campaign transportation manager out of a 757 pit on numerous occasions.

I dont care what anyone says, outstanding flying and decision making on the parts of the pilots, given the split second decisions to save the birds or let them collide/flip. (yes I know no ones life is worth a plane but you gotta be the master of the machine, and anyone can fly, but not anyone can maintain composure when the "clear blue 22" is not in the equation)

From what I can gather, the Cubs are empty. They are apparently generating lift and moving on their own thanks to weird weather and Bernoulli's Principle. BTW, that's the Air Force Academy's field in Colorado Springs. You can see the markings on the gliders.

thats crazy if its the case. Lookin at the props (i know cameras cant capture the RPM so it looks different) it appears the prop speeds are adjusted to compensate and maintain control, thats what lead me to believe they were pilots. weird

The Cub is a perfect flying machine. To see winds at the speeds necessary to pick them up and turn them into expensive toys is insane.

An old J-Cub was my first solo ride ...:)... while tied down, a stiff breeze on the nose would lift that plane ...

Okay, I did some checking up on these and most of the tow planes did have pilots in them. They were unclipped because they were going to launch the gliders. While most of the cadets were holding the gliders down (so they didn't blow away), the tow pilots were desperate to save the tow planes.

    Damn good piloting.

We just got back from a great cruise to Alaska. It is a beautiful state and we had a great time. On our stop in Ketchikan we went on a flightseeing tour on a DeHavilland built in 1959. After sharing my background with the pilot he let me sit in the copilot seat which was the first time in a seaplane for me. It turned out he has over 17000 hours all in civilian aircraft which dwarfs my meager 3000 hours in the Navy.
The plane flew without a problem and it reminded me of the old cars down in Cuba which still run. The pilot said it had only around 900 hours SMOH which made me feel a little better about its age but then I remembered how old I am and still running. Oh well?.?

"BS" wise... Company I'm working for isn't doing so hot. Any suggestions on overseas heavy helicopter jobs? Looking for a steady schedule. I'm a A&P, BS in Aeronautics and hold a PPL. Still employed for meow but it's not looking to great. Been on JSFrim a bit but don't seen much. Any advice??

    Just discovered this thread...
Retired 4 years ago from flying, dual rated, 15 years flying fixed and rotary wing for mapping, photogrammetric, survey, engineering and forestry industries; last 15 years flying 135 on demand in Alaska, AS350 Astars exclusively. Living two lives, winters in the redwood region of northern California (home) summers on the glaciers and icefields in SE Alaska. Fantasy life I kid you not.
35 years aviation, 10K hours logged.
Happy with my feet on the ground.
    Be safe out there.
