When I stop on a hill, then go, there's slippage of some kind. Not sure what it is. Dry pavement, not much in the bed, just house cleaning supplies, or nothing, usually.

Is this related to the infamous "low ATF" problem?

    Thanks!

You'll have to give a better definition of slippage. It sounds like something slipping? You are physically slipping? Or are you referring to your transmission slipping?

Sounds like your LSD, does your light come on at the same time?
Nothing to worry about, mine does the same.

Would like to hear the technical breakdown on what is exactly happening without a swag "o" mine...

Edit: For clarification my condition for the noise, light blink is when I am on an incline and stop, continue again or on a decline (backing up) stop and go forward, my LSD light will come on and/or blink, then it sounds like ABS does its stuff and then the sound quits and the LSD light shuts off..

I give it gas and there's a "brrrrrr" sound". I know. Real helpful! It's happened twice. Don't think it's physically slipping. It happens very quickly. A few seconds, then up the hill I go.

Didn't notice a light coming on.

Hmmm you might need to try to capture it on video. Mine goes "brrrr" too when I give it gas, but that is because there is an engine right in front of me.

If you are giving it gas reallll slow it could just be that it doesn't have enough power yet to start moving on the hill. I don't know, with a slipping transmission the revs will keep going up (like you are pressing the gas in neutral) but you won't go anywhere, then it will catch and suddenly you will jolt forward a bit.

Yeah, well, my sound effects are rusty!

Since it only happens on hills, I guess it is hill assist.

My last vehicle was a Mazda CX7. My last truck was a 1994 Toyota pickup. No name. Had manual roll up windows and no 1/10 miles on odometer, so the new Tacoma is like a spaceship to me!

    Thanks for the replies!

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn off the hill assist for manual transmissions?

Sub'd mine does the same thing but it's not all the time. If I stop on the incline pulling into my garage then try to go it rolls back and the traction control kicks on. I step on the brake a little and give it some gas and she goes. Dealer said it was normal and this is my first auto. The incline is not steep at all maybe 10 degrees. If there is a technical explanation I would like to know too.

Hill Assist scared me to death this morning. I was half asleep on the way to work, took a different route, rolled up to a stoplight on a steep hill. Wasn't paying attention and my foot slipped off the brake and I started to roll back, commence loud beeping, and (i think) ABS system going nuts, but it almost completely stopped me rolling backwards down the hill. Took me by surprise.
