Alright, so to begin with let's get some facts on the table. I am 19 years old, will be 21 in 2018. No criminal record, not even a speeding ticket. I want to get my concealed carry license, but I live in Utah which requires you to be 21. HOWEVER, Maine issues non resident CCW licenses at 18, which Utah recognizes. I'm in lawful possession of my handgun, and I am very experienced with firearms. Should I have any problems with this? And for you Utah folks out there, any recommendations for a good class in the SLC area that will take me at 19?

Call your local police station that issues the CCW, the should be able to tell you what to do instead of hearing it from someone who thinks they know the answer and you get in trouble from being misinformed.

Utah sounds like a pretty gun-friendly state. It looks like you're good to go for open carry, but you need a permit to conceal. I'm guessing someone in Maine (or any other state with reciprocity) teaches classes specifically for people in your situation. It would be good to talk to the local PD too. Good luck.

In most reciprocity situations you would still have to qualify for the permit of the state which you reside in for reciprocity to extend. Since you're not old enough for a Utah permit & reside in Utah they likely wouldn't extend reciprocity to any other non-resident state permit. Not the answer you're looking for and I know a couple years seems like forever but in the grand scheme of things it's not worth risking losing your rights over. Open carry & get that permit application sent off the day of your 21st birthday & keep your nose clean in the meantime to avoid any potential hangups. That's my $0.02 adjusted for inflation.
