    aloha,

New to this msgboard and this is my first post. I have a 1st Gen. (2000) Tacoma, extra-cab, 2.7 liter V4.

Recently my truck had been sputtering at start up and small amounts of white smoke had been comming out of the exhaust but as soon as I drove the sputtering and smoke stopped. A few days later it wouldn't start, but after cleaning the battery terminals it started up one speed....

Later that day it overheated and died, white smoke came from under the hood. After it cooled off I realized the upper radiator hose had burst and the radiator was bone dry.

I replaced the radiator hose and filled it up with coolant but today it still has been going into the red on the temp gauge and when I open the hood the radiator is boiling and everything seems super hott...

    any ideas?

No I didn't, I only found out you need to do this after the fact when I read this forum... So if the radiator is empty you can't just fill it up with fluid? How do you go about draining the bubbles? Because it has been bubbling and sometimes the temp gauge will be on red and then it miraculously goes back to halfway... I thought that was because there was water mixed with the coolant... I also am not a mechanic so go figure...

I'm not a mechanic but you might have a head gasket problem. Pull your dip stick and see if water is mixing with your oil. If the oil looks like chocolate milk you will have to replace your head gasket. Sometimes air bubbles in your cooling system can create a "hot pocket" and cause your temp to go up, but the white smoke in my experience is usually (not all cases) caused by water mixing with oil. Have a certified mechanic look at your truck. I wouldn't drive it until you know what is going on to prevent further damage to your engine.
