My best friend and landlord is a London expat with a green card that's been here since the mid 90s.

I've learned a lot in the last couple of months, between having him around and listening to lots of MarketPlace and NPR. (The closest thing we have left to neutral, actual journalism in the world with the BBC and Al-Jazeera, with an honorable mention occasionally going out to rogue CSM soon-to-be-fired agents)

I'll not delve into the arguments for or against right now, as TW holds a dim view of such discussions and topics. BUT, I will say, this is *big*. Historically big. It *will* affect every single person reading this thread directly at some point in the next 5 years, even if only a little bit

    Sounds like a plan.

I'll give you my brief working man's understanding of political economic theory. It's goes like this.

A man told me something many years ago. "You should never take away a man's right to starve to death". I didn't think much about it at the time. Thought it was a pretty cold blooded viewpoint really. I still believed in the nobility of poverty, and the responsibility I felt we all shared toward the less fortunate of our society.

He expounded more on it recently and deepened my understanding. He said part of what makes us human beings and civilized members of society is our need, or instinct to provide for our family. Shelter, food, food, clothing and protection (defense).

What happens when you remove that responsibility from a person. When you give them a place to live (section 8 housing), provender (food stamps, WIC, etc), free cell phones, spending money (SSI disability, likely the most abused program in history, welfare, etc). When the government is the "provider", what do society norms mean then to that person? What do they do with their time and energy? Why WOULD they work? Working makes them ineligible for the benefits they are already receiving. We PUNISH them if they try to get out of that cycle honestly.

What's the answer now? Good question. Bringing more immigrants from the Middle East and Central and South America to add to the non working class isn't (at least to me).

Gentlemen, this thread is circling the drain and it's life is short.

Xaks, Brexit is minuscule compared to what Obama has been doing to America since he was elected. All of that will affect everybody, much more than a little bit. As a well known member with an extremely high post count is fond of saying, "Mark my mutherfucking words". Good night everybody! Don't forget to tip your waitress and your bartender!
