Just got back from Medano Pass Primitive Road last night. Easy goings for just about any 4x4 Taco, as long as you don't mind some minor pinstriping from the tight trail width. All eight creek crossings are doable if careful, and the sand section before the pass starts to climb is loads of fun! Camped at the top spot, took about an hour to get there from the Sand Dunes visitors center.

Went to the hills with the fam to escape the heat today. Loch Lomond gate is closed. Couldn't make it all the way up to Chinns lake because of snow. Settled for Fall River reservoir. Good times. image.jpgimage.jpg

Not much wheeling on the trip, but went up to Steamboat for the delayed weekend. Sun-Tues, traffic was GREAT.

Thanks again to @Squeaky Penguin for the location info and good to meet you. I'll be back to the area soon I'm sure then we'll go explore some trails.

Full moon was cool, up until it came out from behind the trees, then night photography was done. Since it all looked like daylight.

Ran into some bears on Red Dirt Trail. Climbing up while riding (making what I thought was decent noise... squeaky derailleur got loud quickly plus we were talking loudly). Ended up with a sow and two cubs 20 feet to my left. Sow grunted and was standing up looking at me. I got on the far side of my bike and she dropped and charged.... in the other direction. Those things can climb trees faster than I could've imagined. The trail continued up but they ran in the direction it was heading so we called it and headed back down.

Went to Steamboat Lake for lunch, it was windy as all hell and had to strap the awning down but it was a beautiful area.

Then back to town. Have never seen I-70 so desolate. Pizza and ice cream in Idaho Springs then back to the big city. Glad its cooler out today!

Glad that spot worked out and good meeting you. Thanks again for the beers!

Up by Steamboat Lake is where a lot of the interesting trails in the county take off. Let me know next time you're up this way and will go explore some trails.

We can make that happen. Need to figure out the status on the reroute of the Ellis Jeep Trail.

Everything's gated, snowed in, and/or covered with deadfall still. Later in July would be best.

Took Cascade Creek from Idaho Springs to Georgetown. Loads of fun, except the last two miles are slow going, very rocky switchbacks. Not much traffic up there on a Wednesday!

Put a couple pictures in the wrong thread last night.

These are from west of Fraser, CO.

Finally got to use the snatch block and winch extension line. Not thrilled that the thimbles on the end of the extension line were different sizes (one would BARELY fit over a 3/4" D-ring pin thread part since it wouldn't go over the smooth area, then got stuck on there after this pull). So I'll need to buy a 5/8" shackle or two.

    DSC05396_zpsymjmkcwx_f50691030b79a0a0c618137235bbddf94ce47d3b.jpg

Great view after the long muddy 10 miles of trail before it!

Rookie mistake... put it in 4wd BEFORE entering mud.

edit: is there a trick to posting a FB video? If I put the link in the media thing it shortens it to a number and leaves a blank area.

If I post the link, it is invisible.

Double edit, must make video public!

I went up Webster Pass with the Mile High Jeep Club and @tre. We officially opened the trail by busting through (and shoveling) the remaining snow drifts. With tomorrow's weather, it should be passable in a stock Taco now.

Webster Pass, from the road that leads east from Keystone, up to the summit. (You'll notice some new trail signs up there, which we put in as well.) Another group came from the other direction, but there is still some deep shelf snow on Red Cone.
