I've just spent hours reading the epic Tacoma rust threads.

My son left me his 2000 Tacoma Extra Cab for the weekend. It seemed unusually bouncy. Checked underneath and it appeared that the passenger side upper shock had split in half. I hit all the bolts with Kroil and decided to have my younger son install some Bilsteins we had. But it turns out the upper mount rusted away from the frame!!! I just bought the truck about a year and a half ago and it had been garaged by the first owner and there was very little detectable rust. Grrr. I know we're outside the TSB period. It does appear it was under coated but it doesn't show up on the Toyota Owners site.

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting the Safe T Cap and a new shock mount and having a welding shop install it all. I've found a couple of shops that weld on car frames near me.

I need the part number for the top shock mount if there's a part wizard on here. I've looked on the net and I'm terrible with reading catalog numbers. Is it this? Part # 48404?

The whole undercarriage has rotted pretty fast

This is what it looks like. It doesn't APPEAR to be a rust bucket.

Looks correct if it is indeed the right rear shock as the side of the vehicle is determined sitting in the drivers seat.

You found the part via your VIN

Just where do you live ?? If your close be glad to help

If the shock mount broke like that what does the rest of the frame look like??

My Truck came from Texas took only a few liquid brine winters to the frame needed lots of TLC

With these trucks appearance means nothing alot of times as they rust from inside out. If that mount rusted off frame like it did then id be weary and go over the frame with a pick.

I think its worth saving then. Should just go through all the suspension and get everything done at once. Those leafs look fairly flat to start with.
