Ok I have very little knowledge of subwoofers and amps, so bare with me.. I have a 03 Prerunner, I changed the headunit out a couple months ago to a pioneer-avh-280bt.

I'm wanting to add the stealthbox.

So my question is what kind of amp do I need mono or 2 channel, 4? Also wouldn't 2+ be better for potential future upgrades?

I picked this one out just for the sakes of the thread. Probably over kill, I'm not sure at all.

and also this wire kit, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142PA8BX/EFX-PA8BX-Wiring-Kit.html

gosh.. where do I start, 18x9’s on 275-65 ridge grapplers. Bilsteins, clazzio leather, audio consists of stereo integrity, fosgate power amps, sundown audio, hybrid audio. Plus more...
stealthbox is awesome. get a mono amp for it. or u can get a 2 channel amp and bridge it to mono. a mono amp would be better tho. the jl says " power handling: 100-300 watts RMS (600 watts peak power) " look for a similar power wattage amp/try to match . that pioneer amp is for sound, not for bass. and very small too. when ur ready for a 4 channel, look for a 75-100 watts per channel. back to the stealthbox, its good but also very expensive for what it is, u can get a good sub and have a box made for half that price and it would be just as good if not better

You could use a mono or 2-channel, but really need another voice coil to use the 4 channel. The 2-channel idea will as you suggest give you more options down the road.

JL rates that driver at 500W - not sure why they would rate it lower for that enclosure. I'd give it every bit of 500W at least. Finding a 2-channel with that sort of power may be a challenge, but lots of monos out there up to the task.

I'm using an Alpine MRX-M55 which would be perfect for this sub (550W rated, 585W tested @ 14.4V). Err, the newer MRV-M500 would work nicely too, but has no subsonic filter. Lots of amp options out there, but I really dig this MRX - gobs of power, inexpensive, efficient, sounds great and stays really cool. MRV gets good reviews as well - there have been a couple installed here lately on the board. Both will fit easily under either seat in a 1st gen.

I am one of those who have recently installed the MRV-m500. I have nothing but great things to say about it and it was shipped to my door for $130-ish through Amazon Prime. Mine was rated at 521w rms and it pushes my IDQ10" fantastically.

    I have a kicker cx600.1 i will sell you for $150.

Brand new never installed! It runs 600w RMS which is what you need. It is small so it will fit under a seat easy!

I ordered them and then I ordered my subs with the intent of having an amp per sub, however i changed my mind to save some space and went with 1 amp.

Also with the wiring kit... You will want to go no less than 4-6 gauge power wire. Make sure the kit comes with at least 16-18 gauge speaker wire for your subs. You will also need a remote wire, ground wire, RCA cable, wire ends to connect to battery/ground/speakers/amp. If you are installing all this yourself then make sure you use a subwoofer wiring diagram to make sure you wire it correctly. (if JL does not do it for you)

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do agree that the Stealthbox is overpriced for what it is. I'd just rather go this route, its sleek looking. You can't tell its a sub and it wont take up a seat. and I also don't have to do much drilling. So I picked the MRV-M500 as recommended.
and added the Alpine RUX-KNOB with it, not sure where I'd mount that at the moment. I'm thinking near the shifter or some sorts.
Also changed out the wire kit with Rockford Fosgate RFK4X. I guess the hardest part of the build is hitting the $897 checkout. :)

I'm not sure I'd call that Stealthbox overpriced. After considering the cost of the driver, a custom fiberglass enclosure for both the sub and your vehicle for just over $300 that hides it all isn't a bad deal at all. Actually it's a steal if that's what you need. I don't think you could find a shop to build you a good one anywhere near that.
