I have severe hearing loss. Something happened to me the other day when I went to see a customer. I thought I turned off my truck, got out and pressed the lock button on my remote. 20 minutes later I go to get in my truck and it's still running. Is there not some type of warning when the key gets a certain distance from the truck like maybe the horn going off a couple of times? This is serious. What if I left it over night somewhere thinking I turned it off? The possibilities can go on and on thinking about the , "What if?"

You will get three audible beeps when you exit the vehicle with the key while it's running. I think you might be able to change the volume of the beeps in vehicle settings, but I could be wrong. It will not sound the horn though. Strangely enough, I did just watch a 20/20 about how many people are killed every year from leaving their vehicle running in the garage and carbon monoxide fills the house. It took me a little while to get use to the keyless functions, but it's finally become second nature.

You can turn up the volume all the way up for the beeps through the settings

I'm sure if the beeps aren't loud enough, there's a way to either wire it to the horn or wire it so an auxiliary alarm (like a back up alarm) sounds off. I have literally no idea how to go about doing that, but I'm sure it's possible.

That's what I need. I cannot hear the tone of the default beeps.

Since the hearing loss is something you live with day in and day out, you must already be used to making certain concessions or adjusting certain habits to live with it, right? Wouldn't it be best to get in the habit of watching the info screen between the tach and speedo when you turn the truck off for the confirmation? It makes it very clear and even gives you a summary of the drive you just completed once the engine is off.

Wiring the warning to the horn would be good for a second line of defense, but I'm just saying that I think one could learn to watch to be sure it's off before exiting.

Please don't take this the wrong way... not trying to flame or be a dick in any way at all...

heck even though I don't have a hearing problem, the engine is quiet enough I still check the tach to make sure I don't grind the starter or leave it running, but that's just me.

You just need to find that speaker wire and then wire in some sort of light.

Maybe the fuel pump circuit, anything that is only powered when the truck is running.

You guys are going on the wrong direction suggesting a louder horn. He needs a visual indicator.

Or make the truck louder by having the muffler swapped.

This is actually a pretty good idea.

With the Magnflow, you'll know it's running.

I don't take it the wrong way. I'm not completely deaf. Just certain frequencies are out of my hearing range (mostly the highs). The truck's warning beeper falls within that range. Changing the feq. or volume will solve my problem. I have not found where to increase the volume. Making concessions is something when there is no solutions. I look for solutions first. Old habits are hard to die after driving a certain way (like having keys in the ignition) for 40 years.

I always take my keys and put them in the cup holder. Having to grab the keys when I exit is a good reminder for me to turn off the truck.

I would also look at the tach before I got out of the truck.
