I'm trying to figure out what exhaust to get for my 07 ext cab 2.7l and I've been looking for a while now and I like the specs of the flow master dbx but I'm just not sure if that would work on my truck, I only want to do catback only, no different mufflers, any suggestions?

So you want a catback with the stock quiet muffler?

I guess I kind of asked my question wrong like I don't want to just replace the muffler, I want to replace the entire cat back I don't want to just replace the muffler and keep stock pipes

I don't think you'd see any increase in performance going from a different muffler vs a cat back system. Unless you have some other reason like you want a stainless exhaust or yours is rusting out I'd just have a loud muffler welded in to the factory exhaust. It'd be cheaper.

I'm not looking for just a loud muffler though I'm looking to pick up a little better performance out of it

What would be the best for my truck ? I want to replace the pipes just to have fresh pipes and I figured a catback would cost me less money than having it all welded up by a shop

A shop would just cut out your old muffler and weld in a new one should be $25-100 plus whatever the muffler you pick cost. You can get new pipes and a cat back might be about the same cost as a shop running New exhaust. I'd just stick with a welded in muffler with factory pipes. I'm pretty sure the 4cyl uses the same size exhaust as a v6 so it shouldn't choke it down at all and have the potential for plenty of flow.

So what muffler do you think would be best?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
The 2.7L uses smaller pipes than the 4.0L.

@OP don't. It will not sound good. 4 cylinders just sound like horrible buzzboxes when they get loud.

I don't care about loud or not I want a little better performance i know it won't be much but it will make a difference in my truck, I have high mileage and need the little bit extra

I have a stock muffler on my truck.
I've heard a 2.7 Tacoma in person with a magnaflow and it sounded good to me, but look through that thread and see which muffler sound you like. They will probably all sound pretty much like a humble bee at high rpms but the magnaflows sound pretty nice under 3k rpms. If you don't want superloud just some rumble footer had a really big magnaflow and I think a delta flow flowmaster on his that he said was not too loud.

If you want better performance try doing a good tune up, lce header and maybe lower gears. There's install much out there for performance for these except urd supercharger that's $5000. Lower gears would help it accelerate quicker but it would run higher rpms when driving.

Cat back isn't going to give you any performance gain. It may be louder and you'll give it more skinny-pedal 'cause you like the way it sounds but a simple cat-back or muffler swap will not get you any more performance.

This. Only real way to get any more power out of it is several thousand dollars.

Im not looking for tons more power, Im looking for maybe 2 or 3 more horsepower because I know that's all I could get out of a performance exhaust

i think a free flowing muffler would get you a few more ponies over stock. find the member tooter hes the only one on here thats ever done any dyno runs. for about 500 you could get a header that has good reviews as far as performance. you could get an afe dry filter and put it in, it has mixed reviews. if you wanna make it run a little better, if it hasnt already been done since you said the truck is high mileage. change the transmission oil if its a stick, i think people like some redline brand mt90 or something takes about 4 qts, change the rear diff oil, GREASE ALL THE DRIVESHAFT ZERKS (you should be doing this anyways) change the spark plugs (I recommend the factory toyota plugs) put a clean air filter in it, clean the throttle body and mass air flow sensor or what ever toyota calls it. maybe runs a can of seafoam through the gas tank before you change the plugs.

after i changed my plugs and reset the computer at 100k miles my truck idled alot smoother but i dont think it went any faster.

you might also wanna clean all the extra junk out if you haul around alot of extra stuff with you, the weight really starts to add up.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
I wouldn't waste any money on larger diameter exhaust pipe as you'll only lose low end torque. The stock exhaust mandrel bent tubing is perfect for the 2.7.

I tested the Stock, Magnaflow, and Flowmaster mufflers head to head on the dyno, and the Flowmaster made a little more torque at lower rpms than the others. It's totally subjective opinion, but I really like the Flowmaster sound over the Magnaflow. I run the all stainless steel Series 50 Delta Flow because it has no muffler packing to get blown out and also has a lifetime warranty.

Just have your muffler replaced. You'll get a little more sound and it won't cost much.
