I also posted this in TundraTalk :)

I've been a loyal Tacoma driver for a long time. I currently have an itch for something bigger with a little more elbow room. I really like the look of the new Tundras. I'd be lying if I said I actually NEED a bigger more powerful truck.

I know the simple response is to tell me "if you don't need it don't buy it". But let's be real, many full-size truck owners would be just fine in a smaller truck.

I'm a die hard Toyota guy but I'm stuck in the middle. I feel like a Tundra might be too much when the Chevy/Ford options seem more reasonable with MPG, engine size, and body size.

    Am i crazy?

Anybody, in the same boat as me or have been there?

I'm scared if I get another Tacoma I'll be bummed I didn't get something bigger. I know a Tacoma is more reasonable but I think I'd truly enjoy a bigger truck.

    Thanks for any feedback!

Here's my take FWIW: if you want it buy it.

I've had my Tundra for about a year and a half as my fun truck for trips and pulling my boat, I love it. I've had at least 8 Fords, and 1 Chevy prior to the Tundra. There is no real comparison to the old trucks because they were well, old.

I just last month bought a Taco for a work truck. In the last year I had the opportunity to rent for work Silverado/F-150/Ram they are nice trucks for sure but more than what I generally NEED for work. Having driven them all, if I'd have went full size it would have been a Tundra. I had authorization from the war department to buy a bigger truck but have always wanted a Taco and it was the right fit.

It's got the 4.0 in it and I'm getting 19-20 mpg in mixed driving. My Tundra has the 4.7 and I get damn near the same number, probably 18-19. I towed my boat on a 1,400 mile trip last summer and got about 15mpg and I usually only see the speed limit when merging in to traffic.

Get what moves ya, making sense isn't always the best option.

I'm in the same boat, considering selling my recently acquired 2016 Tacoma TRD Pro for the Tundra version. Having a more "family" sized vehicle for trips, comfort and camping etc makes sense, but still somewhat on the fence about taking the plunge.

If my situations was like @ocherp I'd get a full size in a heartbeat. I wouldn't want to try and cram a wife and kids on a road trip in a taco. But, my life is currently suited for the Tacoma.

If you think a full size will suit your overall needs then go for it. Otherwise, my Tacoma surprises me almost everyday with its capabilities.

I know the feeling haha. I went from a lexus gs300 to a tacoma dclb and I loved the thing. Brought a house and the taco did everything I asked it too but owning the house I had to cut my cost down a Lititle bit and we'll I traded that in for a regular cab tundra with a 4.7 engine rwd. I did the move because I never really used the 4x4 and well the tacoma held it value so well it was like a no brainer. Well it was a mistake we had the worst snow storm that is once in a life tim here in jersey and well it was embarrassing owning a truck that sat in my drive way because I couldn't get out and I needed space just was a bummer when we had to family trips when I needed the bed. Well I started looking. I thought about the tacoma and said to myself I need a little more room. Am 6'1 and well sucked when I had passengers and I had to roll my seat forward. I love the power in the tundra and need room for my wife and kid and just in case I have another one better bed something bigger. I ended up buyin a tundra crewmax limited and I sure do love it. Its huge but I got the room I wanted for my passengers and I find a way to haul stuff in the bed. I have no regret doing the switch. My gas mileage is equal to my tacoma if not slightly better due to my tacoma having bigger tires and the engine trying to pull it.

Same boat. Have a 08 Tacoma access cab TRDOR. Absolutely love it. Does everything I have ever tried to do. But... kids....just had my first child 6months ago. She fits kind of but very tight and when another one comes in a couple years I will definitely need something bigger. I have time to look but really thinking about a tundra. No wayin hell I can afford a new one. But looking into the 2010-14 are they as reliable as the Tacomas? What should I be looking for? Thanks

I went from a Tacoma to a Tundra and then back to a Tacoma. Don't get me wrong, the Tundra was awesome. You can't beat the power and sound from the 5.7. It also a way more comfortable highway cruiser. However, the reason I went back to the Tacoma was because of how I use my truck. I really didn't need the towing capacity or even that much space. It become a real pain to park around town so don't underestimate how big of a truck it is. If these things won't bother you, then I saw go for it because they are great trucks: parking/driving something so large on a daily basis, awful fuel economy, and probably way more expensive than your Tacoma.

Good news is Toyotas hold their value, so you can trade in whichever if you aren't happy.

i teeter with the same thought from time to time. I decided to throw some leather in it to make it a little more comfortable along with some other goodies and i am happy again.
Realistically im just going to keep this as the truck in the household unless i really need $ for something and get a sedan or something else a little sporty for commuting.

I just sold my Tacoma for a new Tundra Crewmax, and I haven't looked back.

I don't like how big most full size trucks are but wanted a little more than my AC tacoma so I traded it in for a 1stGen Tundra Crewmax and I love it. I feel like the first gen was the perfect size for what I use a truck for and to accommodate family events
