My service soon light came here at 4600, dealer is telling me my first 5 services are free. Don't remember that when I bought it, but hey if its free, its for me lol.

^^^ I'm at 4700 and my service reminder comes on when I start my truck. It goes away though.

They don't do anything at the first 5k except rotate tires. I got mine rotated for free at Discount Tire and they did it in less than 1/4 of the time the dealer will take.

That's it? I just put wheels and tires on 1k ago, WTF would they have a reminder light to rotate tires? Appreciate the info, Im going to call and confirm that theres no TSb's or anything, then cancel my appointment. Too fricken busy for that, besides my BAMF sliders will be here by Sept. I can rotate then.
Next question, can I reset the reminder light in the head unit, or is it a dealer only thing?

Now for the life of your vehicle every 5k the service indicator light will be coming on just to get you into their service bay so they can tell you something needs fixed (once warranty is out of course) but while warranty is in effect, most of the time they'll tell you "it's a normal characteristic of the vehicle"

There are literally thousands of oil analyses out there that have shown that late-model manufacturer-recommended intervals are conservative if anything:
    http://bobistheoilguy.com/

Then again, certain segments of society have developed a deep suspicion of science. If you fall into that category, then oil change intervals are the least of your problems; you probably shouldn't be driving a truck or employing any form of technology.

I seriously doubt that the manufacturer programs the service light interval to I improve the dealer's bottom line. You can reset this reminder if you do not wish to take it in.

From an oil change interval standpoint, I change mine every 5,000 miles because dirt is dirt, regardless of the improvement in oil technology. Perhaps it's peace of mind

I pay to have mine changed at the interval between what is covered. 5k was like $60 and my 15k oil change was $35. First price is probably closer to being correct. I have their little "things we did" booklet that shows that price for the 15k change but they only charged me $35.

    .
I will do first oil change at 3000, then about every 3000 with synthetic.

I know I am crazy, but I do all fluids this way because oil is the "life blood" of the vehicle.

Check out Amazon for the oil and filter. I picked up the filter kit for about $7 and also bought the wrench to fit the housing. I have not bought the oil yet but will compare the price to Walmart when the time comes (my 16 Y.O. son just got a job there and will get 10% off non-grocery items).
When I get oil for my other vehicles I cannot beat Amazon's price and can get the oil and filters in two W/Ds with free shipping.

i go to the dealer for all my oil services for time and to be able to find a neck to squeeze if something does goes south. building a relationship with a Service Manager with 20yrs on the job and csi scores to protect is important over the life of a car. the additional $25 or so also gets a tsb and recall scan on the car, a decent wash and i get to steal bags of splenda for my coffee.

I'm just nervous about waiting so long in between oil changes.
