Got a rusted out Taco frame. I'm looking for a replacement frame, but am looking for confirmation as to exactly what will fit my truck. Is there a range of frame part numbers I could look for?

    Details: 2003 SR5 Ext Cab, 4 cyl automatic, 4X4.

Question: Which elements have to match perfectly (tranny, 4 cyl vs V6, 4x4, etc.)? I found a 2003 pre-runner frame, but it is V6 and 2x4. Will this work?

Did you check if your truck was available for frame replacement?

To answer your question, so long as the frame had the same engine, it will work. The engine mount brackets on the 4 cyl are 3/4" longer and 1" further up the frame compared to the V6 location.

The Toyota frame recall goes back 15 years so you should still be eligible though. Check out toyota.com/recall and enter your vin.

A 4x2 Prerunner frame should work fine so long as its the same engine, Prerunners were built on the 4x4 frames.

Thanks! That's what I thought, just wanting to be sure. Related question: What is the exc PreRunner? And I'm assuming it is the same frame as the regular PreRunner?

Thanks for the info on PreRunner frame. That's what I thought. I just last night found a frame for a 4 cyl exc PreRunner. What the heck is "exc" and I'm assuming that is the same frame as the regular PreRunner???

On the recall, I've spent days upon days haggling with Toyota. Toyota claims my truck was never taken in by the previous owner to have the magical undercoating spray put on, and therefore is not eligible for frame replacement. Feckers! If you know something I don't, let me know!

I'm interested in knowing about that too. Mine came from Arizona, no rust at all, but I don't think the previous owner took it in for the undercoating either. Plan too keep it for a while and now it's in TN.

From what I was told by the peeps at Toyota HQ is that if the frame was not undercoated by a Toyota dealer then that 15-year "warranty" does not appy. so if your Tacoma doesnt have the undercoating done then your SOL. I believe that the truck also had to come from a cold climate area but I'm not 100% sure on that.

exc probably means extended cab for whoever wrote it.
