Supercharged 3.4, better to use Iridium or Platinum plugs?

I've searched through the countless supercharger related threads but can't seem to find a solid answer to my question regarding spark plugs for the 3.4l TRD supercharger.

I know that running the stock copper plugs on a supercharged 3.4 is not recommended, and unfortunately that's what I'm currently using. Got my plugs changed at Toyota shortly after I bought my truck but I wasn't aware at the time that I should've gone with a colder set.

So which is better to go with, iridium or platinum? Or is there much of a difference?

    Thanks in advance

Hey Ryan, I looked this up a couple of months ago. I read on one of the other Toyota sites that the Denso IK22 5310 plugs are the ones to use on supercharged engines. From what I have read, they are one (1) step cooler than the typical plug. Look them up.....research them. The cheapest place that I have found them is at Rockauto.

I have the 3.4 w/ supercharger and was told by previous owner and Toyota to run Denso PTR24-35040. These are not cheap, but have worked great. 717f701c-f3a3-4c32-b98e-37ed83c61905.jpg 5577ae99-db15-4981-8685-7163fccba231.jpg

I bought a set of these iridium plugs for my supercharger, but on my engine it says use duel electrode plugs only. The ordains are not duel electrodes. In info on this?

I went with the Denso Iridiums 53040 (not 35040 like whats printed on the box above, not sure if that was a typo made on the label or what). Been running them for a couple months now and they've been great. They are single electrode as well. Maybe the dual electrode is recommended for the stock copper plugs that Toyota uses?

Here's a link to the ones I ordered:

That's what I'm going to go with next time, the 5304's that I ordered above were IK20 and I still get some pinging (not nearly as bad as it was with the copper plugs though).

How do you like the ik22? Which I understand all engines are gonna respond diff. Mine is Trd so I already have headers and k&n filter. Im keeping as close to stock as I can.

I've heard that it's best to stick with the stock copper plugs unless you're running a supercharger or turbo. I'll let others chime in on that though, but that's what I've read on here

Boosted up to 14psi on cheap NGK copper core bkr6e plugs at their stock gap. I get 30k miles easily from the copper plugs, not sure why you'd run anything else.

Bkr6e is not the stock plug nor stock heat range.

May I ask were you found your supercharger? I've been casually looking lately but have only seen ebay units of dubious usability.

URD or Magnuson should have em in srock. Magnuson made the trd superchargers and still makes em but with the trd logo. Underdog Racing Development had TRD superchargers in Stock last I knew. They may have switched to the plain Magnuson models by now though, since the TRD ones have been discontinued.

    Here's a link
    http://urdusa.com/store/Forced-Indu...V6,-Tacoma,-4Runner,-Tundra/product_info.html

They're actually about 40 bucks cheaper from URD vs Magnuson and URD has free shipping
