I just got home from a 2 hour drive in the truck with the new transmission.

The first thing I noticed was no lag from P to D or R none at all.

Shimmy and vibration at all speeds gone .

Thruk is very responsive , I almost can't feel it shifting up or down.

They reset the control unit so it would relearn with the new trans and I thought it was gonna suck
While it hunted for the right gear. Well guess what it's not a problem at all. No hunting no nothing.

The trans doesn't bypass 5 gear anymore and 6 gear will maintain speed without having to downshift.

The truck has always been work to drive now it's put it in gear and go. It's nice to drive for a change.

O and my fuel mileage went up 3 mpg. It's was a good day and I'm glad it's over.

Holy hell!!! Maybe the new tranny is supposed to be that way and Toyota just pumped out thousands of botched trannies. It slightly renews my faith in the auto. I need to see more consistency with other 3rd gens.

My buddy had his 2016 bought back. He's now driving a 2015 he found on the private market. The buyback was over transmission issues.

To ship a $30,000 + vehicle with low transmission fluid and then not even contact the customer or check it before it leaves after the sale is pure assinine on Toyota's part. It is mind boggling !!! This is why people look elsewhere for their next buy. If many people have failed transmissions over this or shortened lifetimes there will be a class action.

For crying out loud I get a recall in the mail for my Camry saying If I get a sticky dashboard in 10 years they will fix it but for a transmission they are turning a blind eye early in the game. WAKE UP !!!

Oh I did after 6 months and 7000 miles for a sudden acceleration in a Jeep Cherokee years ago they never could fix and went to arbitration. Every cent back. After they bought it back a few weeks later they issued a recall fix for 150,000+ vehicles for same problem. Did it once and will do it again, no problem.

This thread makes me glad they gave me a 8 year 125k bumper to bumper extended warranty.

I hope they offer up some fixes. I love the truck and hate it's issues. Toyota needs to get their head out of their ass on this and sort out their problems.

If you want your truck fixed you have to be like a dog on a bone and not give up.

Take notes , names and dates and the conversation. if they say they called your service manager
Do a fallow up call with that person.

I cornered the parts and service director of N Cal and tore into him over the truck.
The conversation ended with him giving me his card and to let him know when it would be
    Back in the shop.

Don't give up and be polite.

You have to realize these people probably really don't give a crap, its just a 9 to 5 job.
Bypass the dealership and call corporate and let it work the way down saying the dealership is not helpful, which corporate (toyota) is where the problem originated from really because they can't check a fluid level properly.

It's easy. Just buy a 2016 Tacoma and have ton of issues. Then argue with a dumbass kid service tech , then escalate to corporate, get an excellent service manager involved (finally), have a field rep come look at it, leave it for 2 weeks, have them replace your diff, top off your AT, and still not fox your problem.

Then nicely tell your corporate rep that you have no faith in Toyota's reliability and that an extended warranty might make keep the truck and not pursue alternative remedies.

    Easy Peasy

You could t be more wrong. I'll admit that not all dealer personnel care but there are those that take pride in their jobs.

"those" is not all. And if it were "all" they would have checked the fluids before leaving the lot ? Yes ?
If discussion boards knew about it why didn't "most" at Toyota if not all check the fluids ??? Or call me to come in ?
    Totally inexcusable. No excuse.
    Financing people knew everything though.

I work for a large manufacturer and I used to be the guy that went out to dealers to fix the "unfixable" products.

The tech working on it has a ton of bearing on the outcome.

A good tech can keep something running and the customer happy.

A bad tech can take a good running piece of equipment and turn it into a trash pile in short order.

A tech who takes pride in his work and strives to do a good job for the customer is a rarity, but pure gold when found.

    Mine?

The transmission issues seem to have improved with extra fluid. Mine was only .5 low. It still clunks into gear and lurches occasionally.

The slamming/clunking while coming to a stop hasn't happened since 3k miles. Right around the time they replaced my diff.

I still have the rumble strip vibration issue while coming to a stop.

My rear diff still howls like a banshee

The brakes still pulsate like a cell phone vibrating (at low speed )

I get wind noise occasionally that makes it sound like my door isn't shut all of the way...but it must be related to the wind direction becUse it's not all the time .

I've started to feel random clunks and thumps when stopping. It feels like basketball is rolling around in the bed. (So much that I checked to make sure I didn't leave it back there)

I've gotten so used to this shitty behavior I almost forget it exists. Almost. I would have taken them to arbitration had they not given me this warranty and had i not gotten the excellent service manager I got.

I'll see how it goes but I doubt I'll keep this past 125k or 8 years. I also doubt I'll buy another Toyota.

It's really unfortunate too because this truck is sweet. I just can't enjoy it and I definitely don't trust it. I never expected this from Toyota.

Yes you're correct. But that applies to all industries. There will always be those that don't give a crap and only care about themselves. But on the flip side those that are true professionals.

You should have not had "asked" them to do it, they should have contacted you. What about the people that bought the truck that are not savvy as you to find this info on a board ? You don't think the dealer knew about it with the people that came in with low fluids ? So its not their responsibility even though they had many people with this issue ? They will call you to make sure you give a good review but they won't telling you your tranny fluid might be low ? BS.
