Strange issue with my Taco today...

Crap, my taco made an unusual noise today twice in ten minutes! Got me freaked out.. It's hard to describe.

I was leaving work so my truck had sat for all day and I was slightly accelerating out of the little parking lot. Then I felt a vibration in the gas peddle and heard a noise similar to what you hear when you have condensation on your brakes/rotors and you're coming to a stop. But it sounded a little more metallic... Never experienced this (not a mechanic) and called my dad who is a pretty experienced mechanic and he didn't know. That could just be my description not being good though.

Any ideas?

 

I am probably incorrect but I'd look at the serpentine belt for signs of abrasion; maybe a belt idler or tensioner going south.

 

Maybe a hub on its way out?

 

I had one go out recently so I know how that feels, didn't feel like that. I felt it in the gas pedal.

 

Carrier bearing?

 

Is that the same as a wheel bearing?

 

Traction control activating? Did it happen over a bump? ABS activating?

 

No, but now that you mention it, I was sitting in the drive through the other day and both the traction control and ABS came on at the same time when I was sitting there behind a car. I thought it was really weird, then it went away when the car pulled off and i I pulled up and it went away. Never came back again so I haven't thought about it.

Sounds like a u-joint failing.

 

I feel like I just replaced that like last year... Dang it

 

Things are like that some times. Those little cylinder bearings inside the joint are tricky like that.
