A little of this and a little of that.
I've got a 2011 DCSB six-speed manual. I also think that driving a manual transmission vehicle is a life skill.

New to TW, and a new tacoma owner in general. 2007 v6 6SPD AC TRDOF.

Asked this in my new member post. Maybe y'all can help.

Manual Tacoma owners - I have driven a stick on and off since I was 16. and I have never had a vehicle that shifts so heavily. Is that normal? Fluids are all great. I've had the truck for about 2 months but travel a lot... so maybe I just haven't mastered the shifting.

I think its normal, the clutch is extremely sensitive specially in first and second gear. It took me a few months to get it right but once you get used to it its really nice.. Some people like some people don't. Usually the people that don't are the ones that treat it like a sports car

It definitely takes getting used to. I drove my buddys manual xterra and I thought I was going to break the shifter it felt so light. After that I have a greater appreciation for ours. Feels much more stout.

A little of this and a little of that.
Yeah, like the other responses, this transmission isn't buttery smooth. Don't expect BMW or Honda like silkyness. Once you get used to it, you can be smooth shifting.

    5 speed manual here :playball:

I do find myself wishing I had a 6th gear on the highway, especially at 70mph.

Wouldn't give up my manual trans for anything though....except maybe a 6 speed

I have a story ALMOST as sad. I friend had their work truck stolen. Full size Dodge pickup with a manual transmission. He gets a call from the cops that they think they found the truck and could he meet the cops. Our buddy raced down there and it was his truck. The Cops said they had to move it for some reason. Cope # 1 goes to the truck, starts it and sits for quite some time, then gets out, walks to our friend and asked him to move the truck as the Cop did not know how to drive a manual transmission.

Yes, I live in Los Angeles country.

My girlfriend keeps trying to get me to teach her to drive stick just in case we're out and about and for some reason I can't drive us home. I've taken her on a couple lessons in the local parking lots but it's just so hard to trust someone else with my manual trans, every time it stalls or the clutch gets dropped too hard I get panicked and say we're done for the day, lol. In her defense, she's much better at learning to drive stick than I was when I first started over 10 years ago. Took me 2 weeks just to get out of my parent's neighborhood with it.

I am blessed with my wife as she kind of WANTED a manual transmission. Well, that is not the ONLY reason, but I do have an awesome wife.
As the Tacoma is her daily driver, and my weekend warrior, she did regret the manual at first, but has admitted to loving it, even in LA traffic.
I was reading a post here about all the assist modes in the automatic trucks, like downhill assist, and there was another one. My downhill assist is 4 wheel low, first gear, and coast down a hill. No problem and no weird system that can malfunction at some point in time.

Manual trans are strong. You can't be scared of a hard shift or dump especially in a truck trans.

Hell these tacoma are designed to use the starter in gear to crawl up the rocks with the engine off.

True, when it happens to me when I'm behind the wheel it doesn't bother me...but when I'm sitting passenger in my own truck and someone drops the clutch/stalls hard it's like a kick in the gut lol.

It shifts slow and hard, even after changing the trans fluid. Sometimes I nail it, and sometimes when I'm tired and shifting/clutching lazily it'll remind me of my insolence.

But I like it way better then an auto; especially driving in the mountains and up steeper hills. The crazy short first gear sucks but makes sense when towing.

20160712_135630.jpg 2008 TRD offroad DCSB 6spd manual. And of course, with the notorious TB chirping. Gonna be dropping the tranny soon at only 105000 miles. Kinda dissapointed in the construction of the clutch, TB, and pilot shaft.... Also i was wondering if anyone has been able to a remote start on there manual... Its got the clutch cancel button so i was wondering if there is a way to integrate that into the remote start where the truck would only remote start when the vehicle was in neutral? Just curious.
