Ive done an auto to 5-speed on my 240sx in college. Thinking about changing to a manual transmission on my 2nd gen since Ive been having so many problems with my current auto. Why the need to change?

find a guy that wants to do a 5 speed swap (alot of guys want to go this route) swap the parts free to each other. That would be a WIN WIN

That would be ideal and you could do a straight trade. If I were to do this project again I would pick up a donor vehicle like I did with the 240sx. There were quite a few items I didnt consider necessary and having both cars side by side made it invaluable.

People typically convert the other way around but keep in mind you'll need an a340F not a340E tranny for 4x4.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Manual first gen double cabs never existed, unless someone did the swap. There never was that option for whatever reason that makes no sense. It's the exact same chassis as the extra cab so everything would be a direct carry over pretty much.

Find somebody that wants to trade the other way and swap whole trucks.

Converting transmissons is silly when there are other options.

I wish I could find someone close to me that would swap my 5spd 4x4 for and their auto setup. My biggest problem is having the 2.7l.

I did the opposite swap. I have an tranny laying around from a 2.7l if you're close you can have it. I live in Seattle.

    I have the tranny.
    drive shaft
    computer from an 03
    shifter and
    everything you should need.

I'm in Alabama. I'll cover shipping if you wouldn't throwing it on a pallet an ship to a business address. When I got everything swapped you I could give someone the same opportunity to convert their auto to a 5spd.

Not sure if I'm reading this correctly but you want to switch out your 5 speed for an auto because of the 2.7l motor? If you think it's slow with a 5speed, you'll be even more disappointed with an auto trans in it. At least with the 5 speed you can control your shift points and get more out of each gear

You read correctly and it's more about comfort. After years of beating the chit out of my body, my knees and hips hurt if I have to drive a 5spd for any real length of time. I can always re gear if I find it to be too unbearable but I can get where I'm going in plenty of time. ;)
