We've got him a thunder shirt that might have worked a little the first night we put it on him. Or he was more like what the hell is this and didn't pay attention to the fireworks.
We talked to friends and vet. We've heard Benadryl with friends and vet wrote us a script for doggy Xanax. Really didn't want to drug ours either but he just howls and cries out the whole night. We are going to to try 1/2 a pill and overload him with toys.

Last year our Lucy went crazy and was a nervous wreck. Her behavior with fireworks was the same as thunderstorms - hide, and don't eat or drink. Since we brought home Kiki, her behavior has changed significantly. Kiki isn't bothered by thunder, so Lucy (even though she's the alpha female) follows Kiki's relaxed lead. She will come to us for comfort instead of hiding under the bed. We're hoping this new behavior carries over through this weekend. Some kids were shooting off a little early last night (pyrotechnic puberty), and she didn't cry at all.

    Fingers crossed...

When it comes to thunder and fireworks I have one that goes under the coffee table for her safe place. The Vet recommended these and they do seem to take the edge off.

No, I get them from my Vet's office but they are non-prescription.

Found an old pic from 6 years ago when Trudy was 8 weeks old. A few posts up is what she looks like now.

Well so far the pup has been so distraught over her first fireworks experience that she had decided to take a nap on the ac register and fart every 30-45 seconds.

Yeah doggy Xanax pretty much didn't do anything for us it seemed. Thunder shirt and meds didn't appear to work but peanutbutter frozen in a bone distracted him the most.

    Some really cool shit

My Chesapeake just stood on the backyard bluff and barked at the fireworks. The GSP just hung around the apple tree waiting for fruit to drop. Then went and laid down. Fireworks in the hood from three or four days ago until midnight last night. I suspect we'll hear a few more rounds go off for the next couple days.

Bloodhound pup (1.5years) did surprisingly well yesterday.

Took her to the local parade and she got more attention than my 6 month old boy. :)

She doesn't howl at all. She's probably only done it a handful of times in the time we've had her. The only time she made noise last night was during the grand finale where she let out a small bark. Other than that she would just rotated from sleeping on our bed, by my side, or in the bathroom. She would occasionally take point at the top of the stairs as look out.

Our city doesn't allow fireworks but we live near a few colleges that are allowed to put on shows and we can see them from our backyard.

Archer was asleep on the couch when I got home from the fireworks. He didn't seem phased at all.
